TRACK
Moving generally westward, the typhoon is forecast to cross the
Sulu Sea and pass near or in the vicinity of either Cuyo or
Cagayancillo archipelago this noon before making landfall in the
vicinity of northern or central portion of Palawan this afternoon.
After re-emerging over the West Philippine Sea tonight,
“ODETTE” is forecast to pass
in the vicinity of Kalayaan Islands tomorrow.
As it moved across the Philippine archipelago, the tropical storm
brought with it high winds and copious amounts of rain. In
addition to the affected provinces, its effects were felt in other
areas of the Visayas, Mindanao, and Southern Luzon, resulting in a
large-scale internal displacement of the affected population, severe
damage to shelter, infrastructure, and livelihood, as well as other
water and health infrastructures. Bagyong Odette(Typhoon Rai)
strengthened further and hit nine countries. Palawan, Negros
Occidental, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern Leyte, Leyte,
Dinagat Islands, and Surigao Del Norte are the provinces from the
regions that the NDRRMC has classified as being the hardest hit
by the typhoon.
OUTCOME
• The people who were impacted by Typhoon Rai are still adjusting more than five months later.
Following the cyclone, just 1,680 families remain displaced throughout the typhoon-affected
districts, down significantly from the 20,918 families (NDRRMC) reported on February 21. Out of
the overall number of displaced people, 1,030 families (4,063 people) are currently staying in
evacuation zones for a temporary period of time, while 650 families (2,388 people) are either
outside the evacuation zones or are temporarily staying with friends or family. Communities in the
Philippines that are affected struggle to meet their most basic necessities. 12 million people over
10, 179 barangays in Regions V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, MIMAROPA, and Caraga have been
impacted. There are 1,371 injuries, 52 missing people, and 405 deaths. 2,108,858 damaged homes,
1,704,205 of which are partially damaged and 404,653 completely demolished. Estimated damage
to crops, animals, poultry, fisheries, and agricultural facilities is valued PHP 17.8 billion.
