Isaiah 60: 1-3

“Bangon, Jerusalem! Sidlak kay miabot na ang

imong kahayag, ug ang himaya sa Ginoo
nagdan-ag na kanimo. Tabonan sa
kangitngit ang kalibotan, ug ang katawhan
tikyopan sa kangiob. Apan ang Ginoo
mosidlak kanimo, ug makita diha kanimo
ang iyang himaya. Ang kanasoran moduol sa
imong kahayag, ug ang mga hari moduol sa
lamdag sa imong kahayag”
The Why and How
to
ARISE and SHINE
Introduction:

The first two words,

“ARISE and SHINE” constitute
God’s divine plan and command
meant to transform lives for
better and how to actualize this
transformation by connecting
with Jesus Christ, the light of the
world.
ARISE and SHINE
indicates a change – a
positive change.

It implies improved
standard of life particularly
in line with God’s plan.
4 Reasons
why you can
ARISE and SHINE
1. It is a Law
“ARISE and SHINE.”
This phrase is not given as a
suggestion. It is not an advice.
It is not a dream, neither it is
an opinion. It is a command
given as received from God.
When a command comes from
God, it is perfect.
According to PSALM 19:7

“Hingpit ang balaod sa Ginoo

ug naghatag kinig bag-ong
kusog. Kasaligan ang mga sugo
niya ug naghatag ug kaalam sa
mga kulang niini.”
In PSALM 119:89

“Molungtad hangtod sa
kahangtoran ang
imong pulong, O
Ginoo; dili kini mausab
diha sa kalangitan.”
God has spoken His word, that
you should ARISE and SHINE.
You need a positive change
from your present status.

The devil cannot change or

alter the plan of God for you if
you cooperate with God.
2. It is of the Lord
The validity or acceptance of a
statement/command depends
on the author of that statement
or law. The command to ARISE
and SHINE originated from the
Almighty God who says he is
able to perform his own word.
In EZEQUIEL 12:25
“Ako mismo, ang Ginoo, maoy mosulti
ug matuman gayod kini. Dili na
madugay nga mahitabo kini, O banay
nga masupilon. Ako, ang Ginoong
Dios, maoy nag-ingon niini.”

The Lord who commands you to RISE

and SHINE will make it happen in His
own time.
3. The Lord is the Light
The main reason given by Isaiah why the
people should ARISE and SHINE is
because their light has come and the
glory of the Lord is on them.
The light referred to here is the Messiah
who is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ described himself as the
“Light of the World” two times in the
scripture.
JUAN 8:12
“Unya si Jesus miingon na usab
sa mga Pariseo, “Ako mao ang
kahayag sa kalibotan. Ang
mosunod kanako dili na gayod
maglakaw diha sa kangitngit
kon dili makabaton hinuon sa
kahayag sa kinabuhi.”
JUAN 9:5
“Samtang ania pa ako sa kalibotan,
ako ang kahayag sa kalibotan.”

As the sun radiates Light into the

earth, so also Jesus Christ has the
capability to radiate divine rays of
light to those who will heed his call to
get out of darkness and come to his
4. It is a Sign of Life

Only the living can

ARISE and SHINE,
the dead cannot.
In ISAIAH 38: 18-19
“Kay ang Seol dili man makapasalamat
kanimo, dili makadayeg kanimo ang
kamatayon; kadtong atua na sa
lubnganan dili na makapaabot sa
imong panabang. Ang mga buhi
lamang maoy magpasalamat kanimo
sama sa akong gibuhat karon; ang mga
amahan , mosugilon ngadto sa ilang
mga anak bahin sa imong kaayo.”
In PSALM 150:6

“Dayga ang Ginoo,

kamong tanang mga
binuhat!
Dayga ang Ginoo.”
As long as you are alive, the potential or
possibility to ARISE and SHINE is in you. All
you have to do is praise God and you will
shine because PSALM 67:5-7 says,
“Daygon ka unta sa katawhan, O Dios,
daygon ka unta sa tanang katawhan!
Mihatag ang yuta sa iyang abot;
gipanalanginan kita sa Dios, nga atong
Dios. Gipanalanginan kita sa Dios;
pasidunggan unta siya sa tanang katawhan
sa tanang dapit.”
How
to
ARISE and SHINE
While God has already made provisions for
His followers to ARISE and SHINE, we as
followers must play our part to actualize or
do this plan. Note that as long as the power
switches in your house are in off position,
there will be darkness in this house
especially in the deep night hours. When
you turn the power to “ON” position, and
everything else is in order, there will be a
change from darkness to light. The change
occurred because you took an action.
4 Things
that you must do to
ARISE and SHINE
1. Connect with Christ

Before any object can

shine there must be a
source or reflection of light
to that object. Jesus Christ
is the Light of the World.
In JOHN 8:12
“Unya si Jesus miingon na usab
sa mga Pariseo, “Ako mao ang
kahayag sa kalibotan. Ang
mosunod kanako dili na gayod
maglakaw diha sa kangitngit
kon dili makabaton hinuon sa
kahayag sa kinabuhi.”
And he declares in
JOHN 15:5

“Ako ang punoan sa paras ug

kamo ang mga sanga. Ang
magpabilin kanako ug ako diha
kaniya, mamungag daghan.
Kay kon wala ako, wala kamoy
In order to shine therefore, you must
be connected with Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, He can give you the power
to ARISE as he is the custodian of all
heavenly and earthly power. In
MATTHEW 28:18
“Miduol si Jesus ug miingon
kanila, “Gihatag kanako ang
tanang gahom sa langit ug sa
yuta.”
His power that made Lazarus to rise up. In
JOHN 11: 17-44
His power that made a 12 year old girl to
arise from the dead.
In MARK 5: 41-42
“Ug iyang gikuptan ang kamot sa bata ug
giingnan, “Talitha kumi!” nga sa ato pa,
“Inday, bangon!” Dihadiha ang bata nga
nagpanuigon ug napulog-duha ka tuig
mibangon ug milakaw. Ug hilabihan
gayod ang ilang kahibulong sa nahitabo!”
You are not yet dead,
you are alive! Connect
with Jesus Christ today
and receive the power
to ARISE and SHINE!
2. Consume God’s Word
The word of God has all the divine
rays of light that can make you ARISE
and SHINE if used faithfully. The
centurion in MATTHEW 8:8 knew
the power in the word of Jesus.
“Isulti lang ug mamaayo na ang
akong sulugoon.”
In PSALM 119:130 the Psalmist
knew that if he could get the word of
God into his life, he would SHINE.

“Ang kahulogan sa imong mga

pagtulon-an naghatag ug
kahayag, ug naghatag ug
salabotan sa mga walay
kahibalo.”
In JOSHUA 1:8 the Almighty
God promised good success and
prosperity to his people if only they
would get involved with the word of
God.
“Ayaw gayod kalimti ang basahon sa
Balaod. Kinahanglan nga tun-an mo
kini adlaw ug gabii ug pagkinabuhi
sumala sa tanang nahasulat niini ug
magmauswagon ka.”
It is obvious therefore that one of
the strategies for achieving ARISE
and SHINE status is to create an
affinity (affection, inclination,
involvement) for the word of God to
the point that it becomes
indispensable (absolutely necessary,
all important, must needed,
required) to one as food is to
continuous living.
3. Commit to God’s Work
Since the bible says, “Faith without work is
dead” (James 2:20). As a believer, your good
work can make you ARISE and SHINE if you
follow the counsel of Jesus in MATTHEW 5:16
“Busa sa samang paagi ipadan-ag ang inyong
kahayag atubangan sa mga tawo aron
makita nila ang inyong mga maayong buhat
ug daygon nila ang inyong Amahan nga
atua sa langit.”
All the works that can
advance God’s Kingdom
Agenda are important and
necessary, there is one that
stands out in that it can
make you ARISE and
SHINE. That is the work of
winning souls to God.
In DANIEL 12:3
“Ang mga maalamon mosidlak
sama sa kahayag sa kalangitan
ug kadtong nakakabig ug
daghan ngadto sa
pagkamatarong modan-ag
hangtod sa hangtod sama sa
mga bituon.”
Get busy with the
work of God,
particularly in
winning souls, so you
will
3. Cultivate Righteous Living
Aside from connecting with
Christ, consuming His words,
and committing to His work,
RIGHTEOUS LIVING must be
the focal point of the one
who will ARISE and SHINE.
He or She must always
strive to be in right
standing with God in
conversations, in
deeds and in all things.
In PROVERBS 4:18
“Sama sa banagbanag sa
kabuntagon ang dalan nga
gilaktan sa mga matarong
mag-anam ug kahayag
hangtod nga moabot ang
kabuntagon.”
The power to live
righteously has been
given to us by Jesus
Christ. If you use it, you
will ARISE and SHINE in
Jesus name!
conclusion:
The command,
“ARISE and SHINE” has wide
applicability and is meant to
transform lives
if obeyed.
 Sinners can become saints
The downcast can become
uplifted
 Failure can turn to success
 Weeping can be changed to
joy
 The sick can be healed
Jesus Christ, the Light of the
World, is the source of
solutions to all life problems.
Anyone who wants to ARISE
and SHINE must connect
with Jesus Christ. Know His
words and do them.
