PSYCHROMETRY

DR HEMLATA KARNE
Psychrometry
 Psychrometry is the subject which deals with the properties of gas-
vapor mixtures.

 Gas in contact with a pure liquid in which the gas is essentially

insoluble

Humidification
 One of the most important psychrometric operations is the air-
water contact operation. These operations are also referred to as
humidification operation
Absolute Humidity

 The weight of water vapor present in a unit weight of dry air is

termed as absolute humidity

 Unit – H kg water/kg dry air

 Molal humidity – Hm kmol water vapor/ kmol dry air

Humid heat
 Humid heat is defined as the heat capacity of 1 kg dry air and the
moisture contained in it

Cs = 1.006 + 1.84 H kJ/kg dry air. K

Humid volume

 Humid volume is the volume of a mixture of air and water vapor

per kg of dry air
