What is CHILD LABOUR

Child labour refers to the


employment of children in any work that
deprives children of their childhood,
interferes with their ability to attend
regular school, and that is mentally,
physically, socially or morally dangerous
and harmful.
Law defines CHILD LABOUR as…

Under the act, ‘Child’ means a person who has not


completed his 14 years of age.

Any such person engaged for wages , whether in cash or kind,


is a CHILD LABOUR.

According to UNICEF , all the children not being provided


education at a school are considered as child labourers.
Key Facts On CHILD LABOUR
1. 12.6 million childrens are child labourers in
India as per 2001 census.
2. About 217 million are child labourers all over
the world as per 2001.
3. India stands no. 2 in child labour.

4.Of 12.6 million child labours in India, 12


million are engaged in hazardous jobs.
5.15,000+ children die in work related accidents
every year.
