1. INTRODUCTION

• Common Name: Wheat

• Scientific Name: Triticum aestivum L.

• Family: Poaceae (Gramineae)

• Chromosome no: 2n=6x=42 Fig.1- HD2967 Wheat Variety

• Nutritional profile: wheat is a good source of carbohydrates 71%, protein 13.2 %,

2.5 % Fat and 10.7 % fibre. Whole wheat is a good source of several vitamins and
minerals.
• The wheat plant is an annual grass. It is mainly grown as a winter annual in milder climates,
with seeding in the fall and harvest from March to April depending on the length of the winter.

• Wheat covers 215 M ha area globally with a total production of about 765 MMT and
Productivity is 3.54 mt/ha.

• It covers around 29.14 M ha area with a total production of 102.19 MT and Productivity is 3.51
MT/ ha in India (Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture, 2018- 2019).

• India ranks second among wheat producing country in the world contributing 13.86% to the
world production.

• Plant breeding plays a significant role to increase the production and productivity of crops to
meet the future demand.
2. OBJECTIVES

• The objective of the present investigation is the yield evaluation of wheat

(Triticum aestivum L.) genotype under timely and late sown conditions.
3. CULTIVATED VARIETY

• HD2967 is a double dwarf variety with an average height of 96 cm.

• It has profuse tillering. Ears are medium dense and tapering in shape with white glumes.

• Its grains are amber, medium bold, hard and lustrous.

• It is moderately resistant to yellow rust and resistant to brown rust and less susceptible to karnel bunt
and loose smut diseases.

• It takes about 135 days to mature.

• Its average yield is 45-50 quintals per hectare( from the literature of PAU Ludhiana). The farmers
claim its success as better crop yield, good wheat straw and free of main diseases so far.
4. MATERIAL AND METHODS

• Sowing date: Timely (18 November 2022) & Late (3 December 2022)

• Experiment site: Sharda University Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh geographically

located at 28*21’21” N latitude and 77*29’00” E longitude at an altitude of 200 mt
(above sea level).
• Plant Material: HD2967
• Spacing: A row spacing of 15 to 22.5 cm was used for irrigated wheat, but 22.5 cm is
considered the optimum spacing. A row spacing of 15-18 cm was followed as for
irrigated conditions. Planting depth for dwarf wheat considered to be between 5 and 6
cm. Planting at a depth greater than this results in a poor stand.
• Irrigation: 4-5 times.
• Harvesting date: Timely(29-03-2023) & Late(03-04-2023)

• Plants were randomly selected to obtain data for plant height (PH), spike length
(SL), spikelets per spike (SPS), number of grains per spike (NGPS), No. of
Tillers, 1000g seed wt.

• Crop was harvested from 1 m2 area of each plot. The grain yield obtained from
1m2 is converted to kilogram per hectare (kg ha-1).

• 1000 grains weight were calculated by counting 1000 grain from harvested grain
yield at random from each plot and weight was recorded in gram on electronic
balance.
6. CONCLUSION
• According to the results and discussions, HD2967 variety shows different yield
for timely & late sown. Timely sown had the highest yield then late sown.

• There was a significant difference in yield quality. HD2967 shows the best
outcome under the environmental conditions of Greater Noida, so this variety can
be sown under timely conditions.

• Timely sown HD2967 variety shows the highest height with respect to late sown.

• Mass weight of timely sown were higher than late sown.
