• Condition, casters, functions
• Battery
• Safe Working Load (SWL)
• Emergency stop
• Emergency lowering……
Where equipment is available the correct use of hoists should be
provided locally as part of localised training on the specific hoist. This
should be recorded on a hoist training record locally.
Sling check
Before using any sling check
• Correct and appropriate sling for the patient
• LOLER inspection is in date
• Stitching and overall condition
• Weight limit not exceeded

That the weight is correct as manufacturing errors can occur (grams / kilograms)

Fallen patient
There is no easy, generic way to describe how to safely assist or move a patient and each
situation is unique.
Assess for injury and follow your local procedure (call
999 if needed)

Only attempt to help the person if you feel that both of

you are able to safely work together. Otherwise call for
help.

A step by step approach will allow the patient to rest

in-between stages.

Using a chair as an anchor point can assist in the

movement and bringing a second chair behind the
patient can help achieve a sitting position easier.
