 DENTAL CARIES
• The formation of cavities in the teeth by
the action of bacteria
 CAUSES OF DENTAL CARIES
o Dental caries are caused by the action of
acids on the enamel surface. The acid is
produced when sugar in food or drinks
react with bacteria present in the dental
plaque on the tooth surface.
 SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Pain in the tooth
Swelling of the gums and bleeding
 PREVENTION OF DENTAL CARIES
Use fluorides
Reduce frequent consumption of sugar
People are advised to eat food rich in
vitamin D to utilize calcium e.g.. Cheese,
margarine and eggs
