WHAT ARE THE
MAGNETS?
Magnets are the material which
attracts the iron objects towards
itself.
PROPERTIES OF
MAGNETS
1) Magnets exerts their infl uences through
various material.
An object very near to the magnets experiences
more force as compared to an object kept a
little
away.
2) Magnets exerts more magnetic
force at the end as compass to the
middle.
The ends of magnets show more magnetic force and
are called POLES of a magnet.
3) A magnet always comes to rest in
North-South directions.
It has been found that the core of the earth
also acts as gaint magnet , having two poles.
This is the reason why a freely suspended
magnet always rest in North-South direction.
4)Like Poles repeal Unlike Poles attract
each other.
If you take two bar magnets and keep them on
a table end to end, you will fi nd that either the
two magnets will stick to each other with a lot
of force, or it will be diffi cult to bring them
together so that they touch each other. This is
because the North pole of one magnets attracts
the other magnet.
5) Magnetic poles always exist in pairs.
As we know there are two poles of a magnet N-
Poles and S-Poles always work in pair or group
of two.
USES OF MAGNETS
Magnets are use for variety of things these
days. We will fi nd out the magnet in the door
of refrigerator contains a magnets used for
closing and opening the door.
PRECAUTIONS OF
MAGNETS
There are some things you must keep in mind while playing
with magnets. Magnets should keep never near electronic
items as they affect the magnet fi eld present in electronic
items and disrupt their working.
