C2 – Vodafone Idea Internal TECHNICAL SEMINAR, DEPARTMENT OF ECE, CVR COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
MOTIVATION 2

 The goal of the Blue Brain Project is to build biologically detailed

digital reconstructions and simulations of the rodent, and ultimately
the human brain.
 The main motivations behind the blue brain technology
are treatment of brain disfunctioning, scientific curiosity about
consciousness and human mind, a bottom up approach towards
building thinking machine and databases of all neuroscientific
research results and related past stories.

ABSTRACT 3
 Blue Brain is the name of the world's first virtual brain, a virtual machine that can think,
respond, take decision, and keep anything in the memory. This is similar to functioning of
biological human brain in terms of memory, feelings, emotions, and decision making. Data is
collected from all the many different neuron types. This data is used to build biologically
realistic models of neurons and networks of neurons in the cerebral cortex. The simulations
are carried out on a Blue Gene supercomputer built by IBM, hence the name "Blue Brain".
 The Blue Brain is an attempt to create a synthetic brain by reverse-engineering the
mammalian brain down to the molecular level. With the advancement of technology, the
ultimate source of information and discovery of the human brain should also be preserved. In
other words, a human does not live for Thousands of years but the information in his mind
could be saved and used for several thousands of years. So, even after the death of a person
we will not lose the knowledge, intelligence, personalities, feelings and memories of that
man and can be used for the development of the human society. The major motivations
behind the Blue Brain Technology are, brain disease treatments, curiosity about
consciousness and, a bottom-up approach towards building a thinking machine.

INTRODUCTION 4
 Blue brain is a machine that can function as a human brain.
 It is an attempt to create a synthetic brain by reverse-engineering the mammalian brain down
to the molecular level.
 Blue brain is named with the colour blue because the virtual brain functions based on the super
computer “BLUE GENE”.
 This technology uses nanobots to meet the functions of human brain.

WHY VIRTUAL BRAIN ? 5

 A human is always in need of intelligence and an intelligent brain. But it is lost along with the person
after his death.
• That’s where the virtual brain comes into the picture where the brain and its intelligence can be alive
after the death.

 We often face difficulties in remembering things.

• A virtual brain can take away the extra stress we face to remember things.
• It is a perfect technical solution to a very common human problem.

 It is expected that the blue brain will be able to give solutions such as the treatment of incurable brain
diseases.

 It is both boon and bane to mankind.

 Able to transfer ourselves into computers at some point.

 The BBP, if implemented successfully, would indeed change

many things around us and it will boost the area of research conclusion
and technology.
CONCLUSI
 Certain research and development take decades or even
centuries to complete, so the knowledge and efforts of a
ON
scientist can be preserved and used further in his absence.

 It is not an easy task to replicate the convoluted brain

system into a computer. It is expected to deliver this project
by 2023.

 In future this technology will be useful in diagnosis of

malfunction of human brain as well as development of
treatments for neurological disorders.
 Since this technology is useful to study the flow of the
signals transferred from brain to the sensory cell and FUTURE
from sensory cell to brain.
