What is French
Revolution?
The French Revolution was a revolution in
France from 1789 to 1799. A result of the
French Revolution was the end of the
French monarchy. The revolution began
with a meeting of the Estates General in
Versailles, and ended when Napoleon
Bonaparte took power in November 1799.
THE 3 ESTATES
• In France, people were divided into three
estates
– First Estate • High-ranking members of
the Church • Privileged class –
Second Estate • Nobility • Privileged class –
Third Estate • Everyone else – from peasants
in the countryside to wealthy bourgeoisie
merchants in the cities • Unprivileged class
What were the causes of
French Revolution?
• Social Inequality in France due to the
Estates System.
• Tax Burden on the Third Estate.
• The Rise of the Bourgeoisie.
• Financial Crisis caused due to Costly Wars.
• The Enlightenment.
