Industrial Revolution
• It is defined as the major changes & transition in manufacturing & industrial
process with new innovative technologies.
What is Smart Manufacturing?
• According to ISO, smart manufacturing is “manufacturing that improves
its performance aspects with integrated and intelligent use of processes
and resources in 'cyber', ‘physical,' and 'human' spheres to create and
deliver products and services, which also collaborate with other domains
within enterprise value chains.”
Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT)
• IOT is all about connecting devices that have their own unique identities, as well as network & are
connected to the Internet, embedded with electronics, & software which allow it to collect &
exchange data over the Internet without any human interaction.
• IIoT, or Industrial Internet of Things, is a subset of IoT that applies specifically to industrial settings.
Cobots & Robots
A cobot, or collaborative
robot, is a robot intended
for direct human-robot
interaction within a shared
space, or where humans
and robots are in close
proximity.
Example of Cobots & Robots
Artificial Intelligence
• Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer, or a robot controlled by a computer to do
tasks that are usually done by humans because they require human intelligence and discernment.
Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality

Augmented Reality Virtual Reality

Additive Manufacturing

• 3D printing or additive manufacturing is

the construction of a three-dimensional
object from a CAD model or a digital 3D
model. It can be done in a variety of
processes in which material is deposited,
joined or solidified under computer control,
with the material being added together (such
as plastics, liquids or powder grains being
fused), typically layer by layer.
Cloud Computing & Big Data
• Big data refers to extremely large and diverse collections of structured,
unstructured, and semi-structured data that continues to grow
exponentially over time.
• Cloud Computing refers to the processing of Big Data on the
“cloud”. The “cloud” is just a set of high-powered servers from
one of many providers. They can often view, and query large
data sets much more quickly than a standard computers.
• Cloud Computing providers often utilize a “software as a
service” model to allow customers to easily process data.
Digital Twins
• A digital twin is a virtual
replica of a system’s
behavior in its operating
environment. That system,
which might be a product, a
manufacturing process, or
even an entire supply chain,
is represented by a collection
of digital models.
Cyber Security
• Rise of new digital technologies brings
new risks and challenges.
• Smart factories are increasingly being
utilized by industry as part of the
transition toward digitization. Being
connected to cloud or the internet, it
creates a larger surface area vulnerable
to attack via digital means.
• Cyber security refers to every aspect of
protecting an organization and its
employees and assets against cyber
threats.
Case Study: Condition Monitoring System,
Apar Industries LTD, Rabale.
• Company Name : Apar Industries LTD

• About : APAR Industries was started in 1958. Over 60 Years it has

grown and expanded over 140 countries as a highly trusted
manufacturer and supplier of conductors, a wide variety of cables,
specialty oils, polymers and lubricants.

• Introduction: It has two divisions Cable & Oil division. This Case
study involves the analysis of the system implemented in Rabale Plant,
Navi Mumbai which comes under Oil division.
• Problem Statement: Sudden failure of critical pumps are resulting in increase in
MTBF (Mean Time between Failure) & eventually in loss of production. Presently
the predictive maintenance is done manually by checking the pump by using
hand-held vibration meter once in three months. Hence there is requirement of
a system which can monitor the pump continuously & generate the real time
data to detect the failure of the pump in the advance & user can plan the
maintenance of the pump when it is free thus reducing the downtime.

• Solution Implemented:
Critical Pumps are identified, and vibration sensors are installed at each pumps
which measures the vibration values of Pump driving end, Motor driving End,
Gear box driving end & Pump non driving end. Minimum two sensors are
connected at each pump(Pump driving end or motor driving end). This are the
IOT sensors which sends this data on the cloud in real time.
• This data is then analysed & present in the form of dashboard on the
portal IOSense which is created by Faclon Labs.

• Technologies Used for this system:
IIOT.
Big Data & Cloud Computing.
AI & ML.

• Benefits Received :
Reduced MTBF.
Reduced MTTR.
Reduced Manpower Cost.
Reduced Maintenance Cost.
Real time monitoring from any location.
Increased Productivity.
