• Outline the signs and symptoms of scabies
• Outline predisposing factors of scabies
• Discuss the treatment of scabies

SCABIES
Is an infectious skin disease caused by a mite (sarcoptes scabier) which
burrows under the skin and penetrates the stratum corneum.
Allergic reaction (itching) occur due to the presence of the mites`s eggs
and faeces in the skin.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SCABIES
• Severe itching , especially at night in between fingers(interdigital
web), flexor surface of wrists, extensor surface of elbows , anterior
axillary fold , in and near groin and around the scrotum.
• Swelling and eruption of vesicles, which often become infected and
may present as impetigo.
PREDISPOSING FACTORS
• Not eating healthy diet
• Wearing untidy clothes
• Touching food with with untidy hands
• Not changing clothes daily
TREATMENT OF SCABIES
The patient should be washed with tetmosal soap , and benzyl
benzoate (Ascabiol) should be applied to the affected area .
• Clothes must be washed , turned inside out dried on the sun and
ironed in the inside
