Present a picture and answer the following
questions below:
How many fruits are
there in all?
How will you say it in
fraction?
What percent of the
fruits are mangoes?
How will you write it
in fraction?
What percent of the
fruits are apples?
How will you write it
in decimal?
What percent of the
fruits are atis? How
will you write it in ra-
tio?
What percent of the
fruits are avocados
and papayas? How
will you write it in
decimal?
• Percent means hundredth or
“per hundred “.

• It came from the Latin


word, “per centum”.
• A percent is a ratio of a
number to 100.

• It is represented by a per-
cent sign ( % ).
So, 80% is an example of percent.
• Put 100 as denominator.
• Reduce to lowest term if needed.

Example: Write the given percent


as a fraction in simplest form

Percent may be written in ratio
form.

Use colon (:) symbol in writing a


ratio.

Use the given number as the first


Use 100 as the 2nd term.

Drop the % sign.

Reduce the ratio to the lowest term.

Percent may be written in decimal
form.

From fraction, divide the numera-


tor by the denominator.

Shortcut Method: Move the
decimal point two places to
the left.
Example:

To write decimal number in percent
form;

Multiply the decimal number by 100.


Affix the (%) symbol.
Example 4. Write the decimal to
percent form.
E. Fraction to Percent
To change a fraction to percent;
Divide the numerator by the denomina-
tor.

Multiply the answer by 100. Affix the


(%) symbol.
Example 5. Change fraction to percent
form.
