Melc: Identifies the various types of speech context
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
● Identify the various types of speech context;
● Analyze the key points of each type of speech
context; and,
● Exhibit understanding on the various types of
speech context through a role play.
What is Speech Context?
Speech context is about the environment
where the communication happens and how
the message is relayed during the
process.

A type of communication that centers on one person
where the speaker acts both as the sender and the
receiver.
● The message is made up of your thoughts and feelings.
There is feedback in the sense that as you talk to
yourself, you discard certain ideas and replace them
with others. (Hybels and Weaver, 2012)
Examples:
● You felt happy while thinking about how your
teacher appreciated you for submitting your
project before due date and you reflected on
why this was so!
● Reminding yourself to smile during a social
event.

● Interpersonal communication involves the
information, ideas, and feelings being
exchanged verbally or non-verbally between two
or more people.

• Dyadic speech communication is described
as communication occurring between two people who
engage in face-to-face interaction for purposes of
social facilitation or fulfillment or the exchange of
ideas and information.

SMALL GROUP
● This refers to communication that involves at
least three but not more than ten people
engaging in a face-to-face interaction working
to achieve a desired goal.
● All participants can freely share their ideas
in a loose and open discussion
EXAMPLES:
● Your group is pitching ideas for the research
title to be presented.
● Your father told the whole family that the
trip to Hundred Islands will not push through
because of the tropical depression.
PUBLIC
PUBLIC
● In this type of communication, you can deliver
a message to bigger number people in a venue.
When someone is giving a message to the public,
he/she usually informs or persuades people.
