THE NUCLEUS

What is it?
 This is an organelle responsible for regulating
almost all forms of cellular activities.

 A membrane bound structure that holds large

amounts of genetic material, mostly found in
eukaryotic cells but don’t exist in prokaryotes.
(exception in Red blood cells)
The structure
• Nucleoli: small bodies often
seen in the nucleus
• Nucleoplasm: gel like
substance in which nucleus
components are suspended
• Nuclear pores: channels for
small polar molecules,ions
and macromolecules
(proteins and mRNA)
