The 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

• The United Nations Millennium Development Goals were created through


the United Nations Millennium Declaration agreed and signed upon back
in September 2000.
8 MDGs
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and
hunger
- Globally, the number of people living in
extreme poverty declined from 36 per
cent in 1990 to 10 per cent in 2015.

New research published by the UNU World Institute for


Development Economics Research warns that the economic
fallout from
the global pandemic could increase global poverty by as much
as half a billion people
, or 8% of the total human population.

making in political, economic and public life.
• Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as agreed in accordance with
the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing
Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences.
• Undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control
over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in accordance with
national laws.
• Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote
the empowerment of women.
• Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the
empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.

8. Global Partnership For
Development

The Global Partnership for Effective


Development Co-operation (the Global
Partnership) is the primary multi-stakeholder
vehicle for driving development effectiveness,
to "maximize the effectiveness of all forms of
co-operation for development for the shared
benefits of people, planet, prosperity and
peace."
