Introduction
• The first USFDA-approved drug that contains an API (Cannabidiol (CBD)) derived from
marijuana to treat rare, severe forms of seizures (Office of the Commissioner, 2018).

Indication
• The product is used as adjuvantive therapy (with clobazam) of seizures
associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) or Dravet syndrome
(DS), for patients 2 years of age and older. Also for seizures associated
with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) for patients 2 years of age and
older as adjuvantive therapy (EMA,2019).
Mode of action
• The precise mechanisms by which EPIDIOLEX exerts its anticonvulsant
effect in humans are unknown.
• Cannabidiol does not appear to exert its anticonvulsant effects
through interaction with cannabinoid receptors.
