INTRODUCTIO
N OF SALAD
A salad is a dish made up of a
mixture of small pieces of food,
typically vegetables or fruits. It is
also know as a cols dish consisting
a variety of raw or cooker
vegetables, usully seasoned with
oil, vinegar, or other dressing and
sometimes accomapanied by meat,
fish, or other ingredients.
SPIRALIZER
— It is a kitchen device used to cut
vegetable and fruits into a long strip and
the most fun way to deal with
vegetables fo a salad. You can create
different types of spirals using the
different blades.
METHODS IN SPIRALIZING
YOUR FOOD
• Choose and prepare food to spiralize.
Examples of vegetables: Sweet potatoes, Carrot, Cucumber, Bell pepper, Onions, and
Cabbage
Wxample of fruits: Apple, Turnips and Pear

2. Choose the blade. There are fldifferent blades to be used in spiralizing food
Examples of blades:
• Noddle blade - This is used for making spaghetti noddle-like cut.
•Spiral blade - This is used for making curly fires cut.
• Ribbon blade - It creates a delicate ribbon spiral out of your food.

3. Attach the blade to your spiralizer. Follow the usage instructions in the manual
on how to use safely and correctly.

4. Insert the food in the spiralizer. Cut the ends of your food to fit in better in the
attachment.

5. Spin the spiralizer. Put a bowl or container to catch and store the spiralized food.

— An appliance used to cook vegetables
using steam which is considered a healthy
cooking technique. Salads should not be
made from raw veggies. There are people
who cannot tolerate raw foods due to
digestive issues. Vegetables like broccol,
cauliflowe, peas, carrots and beets can all
be steamed and then tossed in a dressing
to make a salad.

WHISK
— A cooking device used to blend the
ingredients smoothly and incorporate
air in the mixture. This is an excellent
for creaming thick salad dressings in
small quantities.
PEPPER

— It is used to crush or grind
dries peppercorns resulting to a
finer or ground pepper which is
one of the best condiments to
wake up a salad.
FOOD CHOPPER
— Is a small handy device used to cut down

vegetables that can shorten your preparation time. It
is great for small tasks like quickly chopping the
onions, fruit like avocado or nuts to be used in a
salad. Since food chopper is small, you often have to
downsize vegetable accordingly before chopping.

TYPES OF FOOD CHOPPERS


Manual: A manual handy food chopper is powered
manually than electricity. User is required to press,
or slap, on a top mechanism to force the spring
blades down.

Electric: An electric food chopper works similarly to


a food processor, is much smaller in size and more
specialized in it’s functionality. It uses electricity to

spin the central blade and chop food, all you have to
do is push a button.

• Chopping onion, celery, garlic, and carrots for


soups, stews, and other dishes
• Dicing fresh herbs for sauces and dips
• Making salsas, condiment, and dressings
• Chopping nuts for garnish
• Making breadcrumbs or cracker crumbs

SPINNER
—It is a kitchen equipment used to wash and remove excess water from
the surface of vegetables for salad. Use centrifugal force to separate the
water from the leaves that enables the salad dressing to stick to the
leaves without dilution.

Steps to Use Salad Spinner:


> Mastering the steps will surely make you enjoy preparing salads with
your leafy greens. Salads give you more fiber, vitamins, minerals, and
other nutrients that you did not get from a diet consisting mainly of
protein and carbohydrate.
> Slice your green leafy vegetables before placing them in a salad
spinner.
>Take out the spinner’s strainer basket and place your greens inside it.
> Do not overpack the basket.
>Run clean water overthe greens inside the strainer basket until they
have all been washed thoroughly.

Steps to Use Salad Spinner:
> Put back the strainer basket in the spinner. Ensure that the lid has been
put on securely.
> Activate the spinner and run it for 15 or 20 second for the complete
removal of excess water and moisture from your greens.
> Transfer all the greens into a salad bowl or serving plate and make the
rest of your salad.
> Store your washed salad greens in the strain.
