ORIGIN
• The Navarasa is believed to be originated from the ancient Indian text of
Natya Shastra, a guide to performing arts.
• The concept of Navarasa was developed by Bharata Muni, the author of

• Natya Shastra is believed to have been composed between 2 nd century
BCE and 2nd century CE.

COMPOSITION
The Navrasa or the nine emotions are deeply rooted with Indian cultures
and traditions.
The nine emotions are:

1.Shringar (Love/Beauty): Represents the feelings of love, romance, and


beauty. It is often associated with expressions of passion and admiration. Click icon to add picture
2.Hasya (Laughter): Represents the emotion of humor and laughter. It
involves expressions that convey joy, amusement, and mirth.

3.Raudra (Anger): Raudra portrays the emotion of anger. It involves facial


expressions and body language that convey fury, resentment, or rage.

4.Karuna (Compassion): Karuna represents feelings of compassion,


empathy, and sympathy. It is expressed through facial expressions and
gestures that convey a sense of sorrow or empathy.

5.Bhibhatsa (Disgust): Bhibhatsa is the emotion of disgust or repulsion. It
involves expressions that convey aversion, dislike, or revulsion.

6.Bhayanaka (Fear): Bhayanaka portrays the emotion of fear. This involves


expressions that convey terror, anxiety, or apprehension.

7.Veera (Courage): Veera represents the emotion of courage and heroism. It


involves expressions and gestures that convey strength, valor, and

8.Adbhuta (Wonder/Amazement): Adbhuta is the emotion of wonder and
amazement. It involves expressions that convey astonishment, marvel, or awe.

9.Shanta (Peace/Tranquility): Shanta represents the emotion of peace and

contentment, and serenity.
