What is the meaning of narrative
analysis?
• Narrative analysis refers to a cluster of
analytic methods for interpreting texts or
visual data that have a storied form.

• A common assumption of narrative


methods is that people tell stories to help
organize and make sense of their lives

and purposeful.

Approaches to Narrative Analysis

1. Inductive (Exploratory) Approach:

Involves starting with specific observations and


patterns and then developing broader themes and
theories based on those observations

Starts with a pre-existing theory or framework and


then looks for evidence within the narrative to
support or confirm that theory.

The Types of Narrative Analysis

1. Structural Analysis: This type focuses on the organization and


elements of narrative.
2. Thematic Analysis: It explores the underlying themes and
messages conveyed in a narrative.
3. Contextual Analysis: Focuses on understanding the social and
cultural context in which a narrative is situated.
4. Narrative interviews: This involve conversations with
participants to elicit their personal stories and experiences.
