INTRODUCTION

 A Reinforced Earth Wall is designed and constructed to resist the lateral pressure of the soil and supports the

soil laterally so that it can be maintained at different levels on both sides

The lateral pressure could be also due to earth filling, liquid pressure, sand, and granular materials. The walls
are used to bound soils between two different elevations often in areas of terrain possessing undesirable
slopes. These walls are an economical way to meet every-day earth retention needs for highway and bridge
grade separations, railroads and mass transit systems

ABOUT PROJECT

 Our project was being done in Chamundi Hill Road, Chamundi Hill, Mysuru, Karnataka 570010. From Chainage

0.00 to 1.40 kms, of total 1.40 kms long. The said road is the main road of Chamundibetta connecting to Nandi

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

 1) SITE PREPARATION

• Safety measures before excavation:

• Take level and benchmarks
• Clearing of area prior to excavation
• Excavation of the area
• Excavation in hard rock area
• Disposal of excavated materials
• Survey monitoring of the formation level
• Checking of the following level by surveyor
• Trimming of the excavation side slope
• Soil protection

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

2) ERECTION OF WSM

• Installation of welded galvanized vanished steel mesh (WSM)

• Placing of first layer of reinforcement with connector

• Placing of polymeric strap (GeoStrap) and backfilling

• Placing stone or boulder and laying of non-woven Geotextile

• Compaction

• Placing of next course of welded steel mesh

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

 1. Movement of heavy machineries or compaction plants (mass >1Mt) with in 1.5m distance from facing could

lead to misalignment I structural damage of the slope facing and overstressing of the reinforcement layer
2. Fill grading shall show a slope of 5% (from wall to inside) in order to ensure appropriate drainage of the back
side of the facing the watering of the fill material- as required to obtain the required density (95%) at
optimum moisture content (OMC) - shall be made with fresh water for details refer to wall cross- sectional
elevation drawings
3. In no circumstances fill should be pushed toward the facing or dumping in the area immediately behind the
facing by dropping from the spreading machine’s bucket
4. Before starting a new course of steel mesh placement, re-check the previous course of any mis- alignments,
out ward panel movement and its correction.
5. Do not start activities on wet backfill (e.g., due to heavy rains) the backfill shall be allowed to dry to
optimum moisture content (OMC) and then tested for adequacy of compaction requirements

ADVANTAGES OF REINFORCED EARTHWALL

 1. Flexibility of the wall

2. Very high resistance
3. Suitable and proven performance for extreme loading condition
4. Ease installation
5. Excellent appearance of finished structure
6. Counteract the forces of gravity to protect the structure
7. Holds the soil together for better functioning
8. Resists Gravity Load
9. Prevent sinkholes from destroying landscape structure
10. Stabilizes the sloping landscapes
11. Provides the level surfaces on slopes
12. Reduces maintenance and prevents erosion
13. Holds back the earth and maintain a difference in the height of the ground surface
14. Withstand the grounds or backfill, other externally exerted loads transmit.
15. Provides stability under large and unforeseen deformations such as
16. Extremely low maintenance

CONCLUSION

• Here the project was to construct and repair the road which was damaged due to land slide, where the method
adopted was Geotrel system which consist of the use of combined welded wire mesh facing at geosynthetic
reinforcing strips, Which provides a high durability and easy installation on complex project, Tall and heavily
loaded reinforced structures.
• The project about Reinforced earth wall as it helped to me about advanced techniques. I could look into the exact
field problems which arise due to various reasons.
• This internship provides an overall look over Site Execution & Planning. It demonstrates the steps to be followed
to produce at The Site Work.
