MORAL THEORIES

AND
MENTAL FRAMES
AND WHY THEY
ARE IMPORTANT
OBJECTIVES
• To understand the importance of mental
theories and frame
• To differentiate the mental theories and
frame
• To identify the learning of mental
theories
MENTAL
THEORIES
Theory of Mind is the branch of cognitive
science that investigates how we ascribe
mental states to other persons and how we
use the states to explain and predict the
actions of those other persons.
BEHAVIORISM

5 THEORIES BIOLOGICAL

OF MENTAL PSYCHODYNAMIC
HEALTH
COGNITIVE

HUMANISTICS
BEHAVIORISM
Behaviorism is a systematic approach to understanding the behavior of
humans and other animals. It assumes that behavior is either a reflex
evoked by the pairing of certain antecedent stimuli in the environment,
or a consequence of that individual's history, including especially
reinforcement and punishment contingencies, together with the
individual's current motivational state and controlling stimuli.
Although behaviorists generally accept the important role of heredity
in determining behavior, they focus primarily on environmental
events.
BIOLOGICAL
Pertaining to biology or to life and living things. In medicine,
refers to a substance made from a living organism or its
products. Which biology scientific study of life. It is a natural
science with a broad scope but has several unifying themes
that tie it together as a single, coherent field. For instance, all
organisms are made up of cells that process hereditary
information encoded in genes, which can be transmitted to
future generations.
PSYCHODYNAMIC
an approach to psychology that systematically studies the
psychological forces underlying human behavior, feelings, and
emotions and how they might relate to early experience. And
the psychology of mental or emotional forces or processes
developing especially in early childhood and their effects on
behavior and mental states.
COGNITIVE
Suggests that the human mind is like a computer that is
constantly processing and encoding data. And according to
cognitive theory when a person experiences stimuli, their
minds will look toward prior schema (or internal frameworks
created by memories) to help them understand this
information.
HUMANISTIC
a movement in psychology supporting the belief that humans,
as individuals, are unique beings and should be recognized and
treated as such by psychologists and psychiatrists. The
movement grew in opposition to the two mainstream 20th-
century trends in psychology, behaviourism and
psychoanalysis.
MENTAL FRAMES
mental models or a 'frame' of reference that lead to the
actions a person takes in a given situation. Frames are
defined by the learner's previous knowledge and
experiences. This prior knowledge and experience explain
why learners respond in the manner they do.
IMPORTANCE OF
MENTAL THEORIES
Conceptualizes mental health as a “state of well-being in which
the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with
the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully,
and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. By
having a broad base of understanding about the how's and
why's of human behavior, we can better understand ourselves
and others
IMPORTANCE OF
MENTAL FRAMES
Are important in decision-making not only by simplifying the
chaotic situation that the agent faces and also by defining the
problem itself. A mental Frame is a frame in which we viewed
the world. And How a person views that situation can affect
her understanding of the facts and influence how she
determines right from wrong. Some frames minimize or even
omit the ethical aspects of a decision.
