IMPENDING SIGNS

OF VOLCANIC
ERUPTION
EARTHQUAKE
Increase in the frequency of volcanic quakes with
rumbling sounds; occurrence of volcanic tremors.
STEAMS
Increased steaming activity; change in color of
steam emission from white to gray due to
entrained ash;
CRATER GLOWS
Crater glow due to presence of
magma at or near the crater;
FISSURES
Ground swells (or inflation), ground tilt and
ground fissuring due to magma intrusion;
LANDSLIDE
Localized landslides, rockfalls and landslides from
the summit area which are not attributable to
heavy rains;
DRYING CROPS
Noticeable increase in the extent of drying up of
vegetation around the volcano’s upper slopes;
TEMPERATURE
Increase in the temperature of hot springs, wells
(e.g. Bulusan and Canlaon) and crater lake (e.g.
Taal) near the volcano;
CHEMICAL
Noticeable variation in the chemical content of
springs, crater lakes within the vicinity of the
volcano;
DRYING SPRINGS
Drying up of springs/wells around the volcano;
and
NEW THERMAL
AREAS
Development of new thermal areas and/or
reactivation of old ones; (appearance of solfataras)
TERMINOLOGIES
PHIVOL
CS
PERMANENT DANGER
ZONE (PDZ)
Strictly prohibits settling in permanent danger zones
within a four to six km radius from the summit of
volcanoes.

EXTENDED PERMANENT
DANGER ZONE (PDZ)
Extension of PDZ up to 8 km and more

ALERT SYSTEM
gives insight on the situation and also triggers the
public to immediately take appropriate actions.
1.Give me 1 sign of impending volcanic eruption
2.Resistance to flow
3. Mouth of the volcano
4.Type of volcano that looks like a warrior shield

5. Most active volcano in the Philippines

6. Large depression cause by the collapsing of the crater

7. A pipe-like structure that connects the magma chamber to the surface.

8. are the sides or flanks of a volcano that radiates from the main or central vent.
9. a quiet or non-explosive eruption
10. Plates rip apart at a divergent plate boundary, causing volcanic activity and shallow
earthquakes
