• Refers to a building specifically
designed for the purpose of presenting
dramatic performances before an
audience
• The medium of the theater is the story
told in spoken dialogue and acted out
on a state.
• Combined art
• It employs scenery, costumes,
furniture and lighting, and at
instances, music.
 Elements of Theatre
• Performers- the heart of the theatre
• Audience- The interaction between the performers and the audience
• Director- The pivotal element of theatre rehearses the actors and
coordinates their performances to make certain that they interpret the
text/script not only appropriately but at by convincingly
• Theatre space ( Set)- The performers and audience comes together
• Design- costume, make-up, properties(props, light and sound)
 Classifications of Drama
• Tragedy- the imitation in dramatic form of an action that is serious
and complete with incidents arousing pity.
• Comedy
• Melodrama- arouses pity and fear through cruder means, good and
evil are clearly depicted in white and black motifs.
• Farce- it aims arousing explosive laughter by using crude means
