The affects of not
recycling rubbish

• Unrecycled rubbish is usually discarded into

the ocean, burned, buried and even sent to
landfill.
What happens to rubbish?
discarded into the ocean?
• Rubbish discarded into the ocean will
endanger the marine life greatly as most
of them may consume the plastics,
mistaking it for food. Because plastic takes
a long time to decompose, the marine
animals will die because they are unable
to remove the rubbish, mainly plastic,
from their body
• Or the marine life may get entangle within
the rubbish, such as nets and plastic bags.
What happens when you
burn trash?

• Burning of rubbish will release smoke and a

carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
• The carbon dioxide released will damage the
ozone layer which is a layer that protects the
earth from harmful ultraviolet-B radiation, this
radiation will cause us to be more prone to
skin cancer, cataracts and weakening of the
immune system.
• As for smoke, it contains soot, tar, oils and ash
which can be harmful if inhaled.
What happens when
you bury rubbish?

• Burying of rubbish is harmful to the

surrounding soil as the chlorinated plastic
can release harmful chemicals into the
surrounding soil, which can seep into
ground water or other nearby water
source, and also the ecosystem. This can
cause range of potential harmful effects
n any animal or humans that drink it.
What happens when you
leave rubbish on a landfill?

• Leaving plenty of rubbish on a landfill will

cause it to start producing methane, carbon
dioxide, water vapour, trace amounts of
oxygen nitrogen, hydrogen, and other non-
methane organic compounds. All these gases
an also contribute to climate change and
create smog if it is left uncontrolled.
• Smog is a type of haze or fog intensified by
smoke or other atmospheric pollutants.
That will be all! Do
remember to
recycle as much as
you can to protect
the environment!

Thank you!!!
