Fire Fighting
When faced with fire,
you must make SPLIT SECOND DECISIONS:

How do I operate
Do I want to put
this thing, anyway?
off the fire or just
run away?

Do I need help?
Fire Fighting
Time is critical ….

make split-second Am I capable of Class of Extinguisher
decisions with putting off the fire? vs

confidence.
Size of Extinguisher
vs
Size of the Fire? Safer way to turn
off fuel source?

Do environmental conditions indicate that

fighting this type of fire would endanger
me or others?
Fire needs
1. Fuel,
2. Oxygen &
3. Heat
in order to burn.

In simple terms, fire extinguishers remove

one of these elements which
•COOLS the burning fuel and/ or
•DISPLACES oxygen
CLASSES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Class A for ordinary combustible
materials such as paper, wood,
cardboard, and most plastics.

Class B fires involve flammable or combustible

liquids such as gasoline, kerosene, grease and oil.

Class C fires involve electrical

equipment, such as appliances, wiring,
circuit breakers and outlets.

NEVER USE WATER ON “CLASS C” FIRES !

•the risk of electrical shock is far too great!
