Properties of mirror image
❖ The image obtained is virtual.
❖ The image is laterally inverted.
❖ The image is erect.
❖ The size of the image is the same
as the size of the object.
❖ The distance between the image
obtained is the same as the
distance between the object from
the mirror.

Ray diagram
❏ The ‘real’ rays, the ones leaving the object and the mirror, should be solid
lines.
❏ The ‘virtual’ rays, the ones that appear to come from the image behind the
mirror, should be dashed lines ( - - - - - - ).
❏ Draw two rays from the object to the mirror. Each ray should obey the law of
reflection.
❏ Trace the rays back using dashed lines, until they meet.
❏ The image will appear to be at the position these dashed lines meet.

The concept of mirror images has various applications in the United Arab Emirates (UAE),
In architecture and design.
The mirror images are commonly used in interior design in the UAE to create the illusion of
space and light in homes and commercial spaces. By strategically placing mirrors in rooms,
designers can enhance natural light, make spaces appear larger, and add a touch of luxury to
the overall aesthetic. This technique is especially popular in hotels, restaurants, and high-end
residences across the country.
The Dubai Frame - a massive architectural landmark, the mirror-like surface of the structure
creating a stunning visual effect that attracts tourists and locals alike.
Moreover, the use of mirror images extends beyond aesthetics in the UAE. In the field of
security and surveillance, mirror technology is utilized to enhance monitoring systems in public
places, shopping malls, and airports. The reflective surfaces of mirrors help to expand the field
of view, reduce blind spots, and improve overall security measures, contributing to the safety
and well-being of residents and visitors in the Emirates.
