Condensation reaction – a small
Esters molecule (e.g H2O) is also made.

• Esters have the –COO functional group. The name of the alcohol goes first.
• A common example is ethyl ethanoate.
• Esters are made from a condensation reaction between a
carboxylic acid and an alcohol.
