CDEV1520_23W_Final Assessment

• Assessment will take place during your regular class time of Week14 (of April 10)
• Any “carryover” will take place in the following Week15 (of April 17)
• Schedule will be created/assigned in class.
• The final assessment will be a oral and in person. There is no written assessment.
• The format will simulate a job interview where the student will introduce themselves and
have a mini-interview on the spot. One student will be the interviewer and the other the
interviewee; then switch
• Students will be given 5 scenario-based situations with questions in advance (see last
slide).
Final Assessment
• Format: Conversation between two students in the class (5 minutes maximum, 2 minutes
minimum). Professor will watch time and observe.
•TASK: Student interviewer will ask Student Interviewee TWO Questions:
• Q1: “Why do you want to work here?” (Hint for answer: think about your skill and
experience), and …
• Q2: Interviewer selects ONE of the questions provided (on the last slide/page here)
• and the other student will answer

•SWITCH roles and repeat TASK


Helpful information and strategy:
What are a behavioural (scenario-based) questions?
∙ Employers ask these because past behaviours can predict future ones
∙ You are telling the employer a story of something that happened in the past
∙ You can identify when you are being ask a behavioural question because they
sound like: “Tell me about a time when….” Or “Describe a situation when…”

How to answer behavioural questions?


∙ Use the STAR method
∙ This method ensures you speak to all the key points and important details of your
story

(Sample) Practice Final Test Question
Question: Tell me about a time you solved a problem?
Sample Answers (Using the “STAR” technique):
Situation: “In my current place of work at Tim Horton’s, the store owner
identified that the store kept receiving negative reviews on Yelp.
Task: I volunteered for a committee of 4 people tasked with investigating
these reviews.
Action: I analyzed reviews and discovered that customer wait times were the
largest contributor to negative reviews. I then lead brainstorming sessions
with my committee to find a solution. This solution was a change in
workflow for drive-thru.
Result: After implementing my suggestion, wait times dropped 50% and our
online reviews improved afterward.”​

Scenario Questions for Final Test

1. Think about a situation or problem that was difficult. What did you do to resolve the
problem?
2. Tell me about a project you worked on that was new and challenging. What resources and
steps did you take to find answers and complete the work?
3. What does “good leadership” look like to you? What kind of leader do you find easy to
follow and why?
4. Mistakes are a part of life and we all make them. Tell me about a time when you made a
mistake, how you handled it and what solution you proposed?
5. Communication in the workplace can be challenging. Can you think of a time where
miscommunication created a problem for you and how did you address it?
