NARRATION TYPES

WHAT IS A NARRATIVE POINT-OF -VIEW?

• The perspective from which a story is told

• the difference between the narrator, writer and character?


FIRST PERSON

• 1. Narrator is a part of the story(character).


• 2. . draw readers in
• 3. know one character’s perspective
• 4. Often use I or we

• Eg. I went home and Tim came over so I couldn’t play.


SECOND-PERSON

• Uses you; from your perspective


• Usually for instructions
• Seldom use it in the story

• E.g. First, gather your materials. Add a cup sugar to flour.


THIRD PERSON

• Narrator usually isn’t involved


• Tell other’s stories.
• Lots of he , she & character names.
• There are two types.
THIRD PERSON-OBSERVER

• 1. see what is physically going on in the story


• Can not read minds of characters
• Reading a book feels like watching a play
THIRD PERSON: OMNISCIENT
LIMITED OMNISCIENT
• 1. see everything
• 2. feels everything
• 3. can jump from one character’s perspective to another’s
