WHAT IS THE COVERING AREA OF THE TOPIC?

A cigarette is a small roll of finely cut tobacco leaves wrapped in a cylinder of thin paper for smoking. An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are divided into three general classes: beers, wines, and spirits.

The earliest forms of cigarettes were largely indistinguishable from their predecessor, the cigar. Cigarettes have been attested in Central America around the 9th century in the form of reeds and smoking tubes. By 1830, the cigarette had crossed into France, where it received the name cigarette; and in 1845, the French state tobacco monopoly began manufacturing them times. The word millionaire was first used by Benjamin Disraeli in his 1826 novel Vivian Grey Tobacco is a $200 billion industry producing six trillion cigarettes a year about 1,000 cigarettes for each person on earth. Between 15 and 20 per cent of Indian people consume alcohol and, over the past twenty years, the number of drinkers has increased from one in 300 to one in 20. According to The Hindustan Times, it is estimated that of these 5 per cent can be classed as alcoholics or alcohol dependent. This translates into about five million people addicted to alcohol.

The Excise revenue from tobacco products in India is estimated at Rs.75,000 million a year. The current export earnings from Tobacco and tobacco products are about Rs.1750 million. Firstly, the excise revenue from Alcohol is the single largest source of revenue for the states. This explains why the state government supports and promotes alcohol use. The total revenue from alcohol in India is Rs 216 Billion.
