 OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson , the students should be

able to:

o write the linear equation ax + by = c in the form y =

mx + b (Slope Intercept Form) or vice versa.

 We will talk
about this first.
Writing ax + by = c in the form y = mx + b
 Did you know?

If the equation is written in the form y = mx + b

then:

1. The numerical coefficient of x is the SLOPE

and;
2. The numerical coefficient of b is the y -
intercept
In rewriting one form to another, we will
use the properties of equality.

1. Rewrite 2x – y = 4 in
Slope Intercept form: y DO WE
= mx + b. DO IT?
1. Rewrite 2x – y = 4 in Slope
Intercept Form: y = mx + b.
 Remember this?

If the equation is written in the form y = mx + b

then:

Since the Slope Intercept form is
y = 2x – 4….
What is the SLOPE and the y-intercept?

Y-intercept = (0 , -4)

Rewrite 3x – 4y = 8 in
Slope Intercept form:
y = mx + b.
Rewrite 3x – 4y = 8 in Slope Intercept form:
y = mx + b.
Since the Slope Intercept form is
y = – 2….
What is the SLOPE and the y-intercept?
