YOUTH
Youth is the time of life when one is young.

According to RA 8044, it defined Filipino


youth as those ages 15-30.

young people are a major human
resource for development and
key agents for social change,
economic growth and
technological innovation.”

Youth accounts for


less than a third of the
household population.
Youth or persons whose age ranges from
15 to 30 years totaled to 31.40 million
or about 28.9 percent of the household
population in 2020, higher than the
29.39 million (29.2%) recorded in 2015.
In the Philippines, individuals belonging
to this age group are considered of
voting age for the Sangguniang
Kabataan in accordance with Republic
Act No. 8044

Active Youth Passive Youth Participation


Participation means you are willing to allow
means you are engaging or whatever happens to happen, and
are ready to engage. you are not changing or controlling
the situation.

Roger Hart developed a model to describe the


different forms of youth participation. He argued that
participation was the process of sharing decisions
that affect people’s lives and the communities they
live in. He believed that participation is the
fundamental right of citizenship and an integral
part of democracy.

Tokenism- Youth given the voice, but in fact have


little or no choice about the subject.
Decoration- Youth are placed in public displays
without understanding the advocacy.
Manipulation- No understanding on issues hence
do not understand their action.

Youth-initiated, shared decision with adults-


Youth initiative and shares decision making
authority with adults.
Youth initiated and directed- Youth
conceptualize, Adults observe and assist.
Adult initiated, shared decision with youth-
Adults initiates participatory projects but
share decision making authority with youth.
Consulted but informed- Child as consultants
in adult initiatives.
Assigned but informed- There is
comprehension the intent of project. But
integral participation to planning is absent.
