GUIDANCE PROGRAM
• System of services designed
to improve the adjustment
of each and every person for
whom it was organized
(Hatch and Costa1 (1961)

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE
GUIDANCE PROGRAM
1. Guidance is a fundamental
and integral part of the
education system.

2.It provides for the holistic


development of the student.

3. Education and guidance


support and complement
each other to maximize
student’s growth and
development
4. Administrative and
faculty understanding and
support to the guidance
program are crucial to its
success.

5. Guidance personnel
perform specific task
distinct and separate from
teaching and disciplining.
THE GUIDANCE PROGRAM IS
RESPONSIVE TO THE STUDENTS
NEEDS.
a. The guidance program
addresses the
developmental and
adjustment needs of the
student

b. The program considers


the unique culture and
climate of the specific
population and
environment it serves.
c. Guidance activities are
specifically planned and
develop to ensure program
effectiveness.

d. The Guidance team consists


of the school counselor,
psychologists, social workers,
teachers, administrators and
other professionals and staff
who work together for the
welfare of the student.
THE GUIDANCE PROGRAM RECOGNIZES THE STUDENT
AS AN INDIVIDUAL AND IS PROMISED ON THE
FOLLOWING:

that must be attended to.

b. Guidance should be extended


to all.

c. Every individual is unique and


possesses worth and dignity.

d. Human beings can develop


their own insights.

e. All individuals have the right


and capability to make decisions
and plans.

Guidance
• Guidance is a process through
which an individual is able to
solve their problems and
pursue a path suited to their
abilities and aspirations.
• ARTHUR JONES “ Guidance is a
personal help that is designed
to assist a person to go
somewhere and do something.
• Guidance is continuous process
of helping the individual to
develop to the maximum of hid
capacity in the direction , must
beneficial to himself and to
society.

SCHOOL GUIDANCE PROGRAM

• The main purpose of guidance


program to give awareness to
student about their
behavior attitude, abilities,
potentialities an their
interest that which direction
is best for them.

• It enables the individual/


person to take right decision
in each and every stage of his
life by overcoming the
necessities and incorporating
the necessities.

SELECTION OF PROGRAM STRUCTURE

• After the needs of clients


have been determined
the program structure
should be described. A
decision is then made on
which content needs are
to be addressed first.

• This then takes care of


the school guidance and
counseling curriculum, as
topics are dealt with in a
systematic way.
RESOURCES REQUIRED FOR
GUIDANCE PROGRAM
• PERSONNEL: identify people who
will be involved on basis of
qualification , interest and
understanding of student as well as
community.

• Finance. Prepare budget for one


academic session basing on
different activities and benefits for
learners.

• Facilities. Room should be neatly


maintained and furnished with
comfortable furniture to create
pleasant ambiance. Table, chairs,
display board. Racks to display
materials, posters and charts.
GUIDANCE CALENDAR PURPOSE

• To complement
classroom activities

• To take care of needs


that cannot be meet of
addressed in a class
situation

• Can be monthly, termly,


quarterly or yearly.

• Should be governed by
the needs of the clients.
