Jesus as a
Man
•Jesus of Nazareth lived in the first century AD in Palestine,
then under Roman rule.
•He was born in Bethlehem around 4 BC and grew up in
Nazareth, working as a carpenter before starting his ministry.
•His ministry began around the age of 30 and involved
teaching, preaching, and performing miracles.
•Jesus gathered disciples and followers, challenging religious
authorities with his teachings about love, compassion, and the
Kingdom of God.
•He used parables—stories with moral or spiritual lessons—to
convey his message.
•Jesus addressed issues such as social justice, compassion for
the marginalized, and the importance of faith and repentance.
• His ministry led to his arrest and crucifixion
by the Roman authorities, likely around 30-33
AD.
• While evidence outside religious texts is
limited, ancient historians like Josephus and
Tacitus mention Jesus and his impact on early
Christianity.
• Historians regard Jesus as a significant figure
in first-century Judaism and the emergence of
Christianity, whose life and teachings continue
to influence both religious and secular
spheres.
Why does Jesus have to
become a man?
15
Sapagka't tayo'y walang isang dakilang
1 John 2:16
Temptation of Jesus
•First Temptation: Satan challenged Jesus to turn stones into bread to satisfy
his hunger. Jesus responded by quoting scripture, saying, "Man shall not live
by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God"
(Matthew 4:4, ESV). (Flesh)
•Second Temptation: Satan took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple in
Jerusalem and urged him to throw himself down, saying that angels would
rescue him. Jesus again quoted scripture, saying, "You shall not put the Lord
your God to the test" (Matthew 4:7, ESV). (Pride)
•Third Temptation: Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and
offered to give them to him if he would worship him. Jesus rebuked Satan,
saying, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your
God and him only shall you serve'" (Matthew 4:10, ESV). (Eyes)
•There is this really interesting story where there
is a high-ranking Roman officer.
•He comes to Jesus begging him to heal his
servant.
•He even calls Jesus his Lord, acknowledging that
Jesus is his authority.
•Jesus praises this man for recognizing what no
one else yet had,
•that not only was Jesus announcing God's
kingdom.
•He was the King.
•Jesus's crucifixion is seen as his enthronement as the
King of the Jews in Christian theology.
•He is given a crown of thorns and a robe, symbolizing his
kingship, albeit in a mockingly sarcastic manner by the
Roman soldiers.
•Instead of being seated on a throne, Jesus is elevated on
the cross.
•This event fulfills the prophecy and symbolizes Jesus's
role as the bearer of good news, bringing salvation to
humanity through his sacrificial death.
•The crucifixion is understood as Jesus's victory over
death, sin, and corruption, achieved through his life and
love.
•Christians believe that through his crucifixion and
resurrection, Jesus reigns as King, offering forgiveness and
eternal life to those who believe in him.
Jesus as
GOD
Where in the Bible does
Jesus says He is GOD.
58
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you,
before Abraham was, I am.” So they picked up
59

stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and

went out of the temple.
In Hebrew Bible, GOD was not called GOD, but by His name.

God identifies himself to Moses as "I AM WHO I AM.“

YHWH = Being = “to be” = Existence = I AM

By using the phrase "I AM," Jesus is

asserting his oneness with God the
Father and his role as the source of
spiritual life and salvation.
