Water Treatment
Water Treatment Plant Processes
 Collection of water from source
 Coagulant(Alum & Lime Added)
 Aeration
 Flocculation Tank
 Sedimentation Basin or Tank
 Sludge collection & sludge thickening
 Storage of sludge, reuse & disposal
 Filtration
 Disinfection & Fluoridation
 Water storage & water distribution
Coagulation
The majority of municipal
water treatment plants
use aluminum sulphate as
the coagulation chemical.
Generally, water treatment
facilities have the
coagulation process set up so
that the coagulant chemicals
are removed with the floc.
Aeration Process In Cascade aerator
Aeration brings water and air
in close contact in order to
remove dissolved gases
(such as carbon dioxide) and
oxidizes dissolved metals
such as iron, hydrogen
sulfide, and volatile organic
chemicals (VOCs). Aeration is
often the first major process at
the treatment plant.
Flocculation
Flocculation is a water
a treatment process where
solids form larger clusters,
or flocs, to be removed
from water. This process can
happen spontaneously, or
with the help of chemical
agents. It is a common
method of stormwater
treatment, wastewater
treatment, and in the
purification of drinking
water
Sedimentation
sedimentation tank, also
called settling tank or
clarifier, component of a
modern system of water
supply or wastewater
treatment. A sedimentation
tank allows suspended
particles to settle out of
water or wastewater as it
flows slowly through the
tank, thereby providing
some degree of purification.
Filtration
Water flows through a filter designed to
remove particles from within it. The
filters are made of layers of sand and
gravel, and in some cases, crushed
anthracite. Filtration collects the
suspended impurities in water,
enhancing the effectiveness of
disinfection. These filters are routinely
cleaned by backwashing.
Disinfection
 Disinfectants are added to
water to kill disease-causing
microorganisms. Ground
water sources can be
disinfected by “The Water
Treatment Rule,” which
requires public water systems
for
disinfection. Chlorination,
ozone, ultraviolet light,
and chloramines are
primary methods for
disinfection.

Different Valves
 Check valves, also known as non-return
valves, are designed to prevent backflow in
piping systems. ... Check valves are used in
many different applications, including water
treatment systems. They are ideal in systems
where preventing backflow is important, and
in which there is continuous flow of fluid.

Non return valve

Butterfly valves are used for applications

that require handling large volume
capacities. It can be used for flow control
and regulation and on/off service.

Ball valves are quarter-turn valves that use rotating
ported spheres inside the pipe to block and allow
the flow of fluids—basically, a ball containing a hole.
With the valve open, the ball allows the fluid to pass
through. A ball valve controls pressure and flow.

Temperature measurement in wastewater
applications provides an important back up
to measurements such as pH, Dissolved
Oxygen, Suspended Solids and Turbidity.
Temperature sensor panel
Level transmitters provide continuous level
measurements over the range of the system
rather than at a single point and produce an
output signal that directly correlates to the level in
the vessel. The output signal generated can be used
to display the depth or to actuate control functions.

Level transmitter
A pressure transmitter is a mechanical device that
measures the expansive force of a liquid or gaseous
sample. Also known as a pressure transducer, this type
of sensor is typically composed of a pressure sensitive
surface area made of steel, silicon, or other materials
depending upon the analyte's composition
Pressure transmitter
A vibration sensor is a device that measures
the amount and frequency of vibration in
a given system, machine, or piece of
equipment. Those measurements can be used
to detect imbalances or other issues in the
asset and predict future breakdowns.

Here the differential pressure flow

meter measures the volume flow in water .
They are particularly used in situations where
high pressure, high temperature or a large
diameter play a role.

Chlorination is the process of adding
chlorine to drinking water to kill
parasites, bacteria, and viruses.
Different processes can be used to
achieve safe levels of chlorine in
drinking water.

Excessive pH levels, particulates, and

contaminants are typically found in
wastewater. Using pH in wastewater
treatment requires an accurate and
robust measurement with a pH meter. It
also necessitates the measurement of the
Chlorine and pH Analyser water's temperature.
Common centrifugal pumps in water services
have been horizontal single stage pumps;
often the most popular is the end-suction,
top-discharge one.

Horizontal pump
Vertical Turbine Pumps are widely used for cooling
water supply, industrial plants and power plants.
The fact that the vertical turbine pump can be multi-
staged allows maximum flexibility both in the initial
pump selection and in the event that future system
modifications require a change in the pump rating.
