ABSTRACT

 With rapid increase in population, issues regarding

sanitation also increases.
 These unhygienic conditions in nearby
surroundings lead to spread of infectious diseases.
 We developed a system for clearing the garbage
bins using real time monitoring with embedded
devices.
 The load sensor will increase efficiency of data
related garbage level.
 Analysis of ceaseless data gathered helps
municipality to improve plans for collecting waste.
OBJECTIVE

 Cleaning of waste for hygienic surroundings.

 Avoiding from diseases.
 Easy access for municipality in cleaning.
INTRODUCTION
 Waste management in a city is a formidable
challenge faced by the public administrations.
 Depending on the physical state of waste they are
categorized into wet and solid waste.
 Waste management includes planning ,collection,
transport ,treatment, recycle and disposal of
waste .
 In this ,level of garbage is detected using the
sensors.
 This data will be sent to the control unit and
updated timely.
 This system implements the tedious aid to smart
city.
ARCHITECTURE
 In the existing system, the sensors being placed at the topmost
level in the bin, sense the level of the garbage in that bin. On
reaching the threshold a command is generated and sent to the
central office through the ZigBee technology notifying for the
collection of garbage. The authority at the central office conveys
this notification to the garbage collecting van through the GSM
module. GSM is interfaced with ARM microcontroller through
MAX232 chip that checks compatibility between the GSM modem
and ARM microcontroller.
 The proposed architecture will have a master slave configuration
of dustbins. This would overcome the connectivity issues in remote
areas. These slave dustbins communicate their information with
their corresponding master dustbins. Each master dustbin shall be
equipped with a micro-controller.
HARDWARE DESCRIPTION
 Ultrasonic sensor: Ultrasonic sensor will be used to detect the level of
garbage filled in the dustbin. The level of garbage will be depicted in
terms of distance between the sensor and garbage in dustbin.
 Humidity sensor: The temperature and humidity sensor have to be used
to distinguish between dry and wet waste.
 Load Cell: The load cell needs to be used to weigh dustbin. A load cell
is a transducer that creates an electrical signal whose magnitude is
directly proportional to the force being measured.
 Raspberry pi: The information collected by sensor will be processed by
micro-controller. For this purpose raspberry pi 3 model B needs to be
used. Raspberry-pi 3 is based on Broad-com BCM2837 SoC with a 1.2 GHz
64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, with 512 KB shared L2
cache. The allocated RAM will be of 1 GB. It will primarily use Raspbian,
a Debian-based Linux operating system, but many other operating
systems can also run on the Raspberry Pi such as RISC OS Pi, FreeBSD,
NetBSD.
 Serial Wi-Fi wireless transceiver module: ESP8266 is a chip which is
wireless network micro-controller module. It will be a system-on-a-chip
(SoC) with capabilities for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, general-purpose input/output
LITERATURE REVIEW

DIFFERENT APPROACHES:
 The data collected by sensors is sent over the Internet to a
server where it is stored and processed
 Worker collected data is then used for monitoring and
optimizing the daily selection of trashcans to be collected,
calculating the routes accordingly
 The key feature of this system is that it is designed to learn
from experience and to make decisions not only on the daily
waste level status but also on future state forecast
 The rate at which trashcans are being filled can be analysed
based on historical data and the overflow predicted before it
occurs
[2]
 In some places dustbins are provided with low cost embedded
device which helps in tracking the level of the garbage bins and
a unique ID will be provided for every dustbin in the city so that
it is easy to identify which garbage bin is full.
 The project module is divided into two parts Transmitter
section and receiver section.
 Transmitter and sensors these are attached to the dustbin,
Where sensor is used to detect the level in the dustbin whether
the dustbin is full or empty.
 The sensor senses the content of the dustbin and sends the
signals or the data to the 8051 microcontroller, the 8051
microcontroller reads the data from the sensor and process the
data received from sensor, and the same data wirelessly
transmitted to the Central system using RF Transmitted.
[3]
 Once the garbage reaches the threshold level ultrasonic sensor
will trigger the GSM modem which will continuously alert the
required authority until the garbage in the dustbin is squashed
 At regular intervals dustbin will be squashed. In this method,
GSM 900A modem is used to send the messages
 It consists of a GSM/GPRS modem with standard communication
interfaces like RS-232 (Serial Port), USB, so that it can be easily
connected to the other devices
 This system has various features such as durability,
affordability. But they require a more amount of machines and
labours.
[4]
 A dustbin is interfaced with microcontroller based system
having IR wireless systems along with central system showing
current status of garbage, on mobile web browser
 Hence the status will be updated on to the html page. There by
to reduce human resources and efforts along with the
enhancement of a smart city vision
 at the sender side they used only a Wi-Fi module to send and
receive data. But because of the use of weight sensor for
detection of amount of garbage in dustbin
 The message can be sent directly to the cleaning vehicle
instead of the contractor’s office. Thus garbage bins are
managed
[5]
 System monitors the garbage bins and informs about the level
of garbage collected in the garbage bins via a web page
 For this the system uses ultrasonic sensors placed over the bins
to detect the garbage level and compare it with the garbage
bins depth
 The system makes use of AVR family microcontroller, LCD
screen, Wi-Fi modem for sending data and a buzzer
 The web page gives a graphical view of the garbage bins and
highlights the garbage collected in color in order to show the
level of garbage collected
EXISTING SYSTEM

 In previous, the waste management system are

not properly maintained
 The waste garbage are collected randomly by the
employees.
 If the bin is full, even the employee’s also
couldn’t know which bin is filled and which one is
empty
 So, no one could know the garbage bin is cleaned
or not
PROPOSED SYSTEM
 We introduced that in this system helps the
employee to know and clean the filled garbage
bins.
 In this smart system we are using ARM7
Microcontroller and the ultrasonic sensor for
monitoring the garbage bin.
 If the bin is filled then the controller pass the
message to server and the employee through IOT
 When the employee cleans the bin before show
him RFID to RF reader along with the ARM then
clean the garbage bin
 Bin cleaned message is sent to the server
WORK COMPLETED

 Completed up to hardware component collections.

 LCD display connections.
WORK TO BE DONE

 Garbage level detection

 RF reader function
 Messaging through the GPRS module
