Form: If + simple
present, simple present
ZERO CONDITIONAL
Example: If it rains, I
take an umbrella with
me to work.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
It uses the present tense in the if
clause and future tense in the result
clause. It used to talk about
something that is probable future
result of a condition.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
Form: If + simple
present, will +
base verb
FIRST CONDITIONAL
Example: If I had
finished college, I
would be a doctor now.
MIXED CONDITIONAL
This first form presents an
unreal condition in the past that
changes an unreal outcome in
the present (the past changes th
present).
MIXED CONDITIONAL
Form 2: If + past
perfect, modal +
base.
MIXED CONDITIONAL
Example: If I spoke
louder, you would
have heard me before.
MIXED CONDITIONAL
This second form presents an
unreal condition in the present
that changes an unreal outcome
in the past (the present changes
the past).
