 Region 1: the
Ilocos
Region
-is located in the Northwest of
Luzon. It borders to the east regions
of Cordillera Administrative Region
and Cagayan Valley, and to the South of
the Central Luzon. Located on its
west is the South China Sea.

THE NAME
ILOCOS
On June 13, 1572, Salcedo and his men landed in Vigan
and then proceeded towards
Laoag, Currimao and Badoc. As they sailed along the
coast, they were surprised to see numerous
sheltered coves (“looc”) where the locals lived in
harmony. Consequently, they named the region
“Ylocos’ and its people “Ylocanos”.

food, and religious festival in the
city of Agoo, La Union,
Philippines in May 1st.

Baluarte Watch Ma-Cho Temple Christ Redeemer

Tower Statue
 Baluarte is a 400-year old
BALUARTE WATCH watchtower along Luna's
pebble-covered seashore that
faces the West Philippine
TOWER Sea. The Spanish colonizers
built the tower to keep watch
of the olden times' impending
pirate attacks, other foreign
invaders, and any other
dangers from the sea.
 This Taoist temple was built in the
MA-CHO TAOISM 1970s dedicated to the Chinese
deity Matzu, a powerful protector
TOWER of the sea and a patron of
fishermen. That is why the temple
is facing the sea. Inside the temple,
you will find the breathtaking 13
tiers spider-type dome, towers,
pagoda, gardens, fountains, wood
carvings of deities, and many
traditional Taoist interio.
 The statue stands at 25 feet at the
top of Reservoir Hill. It is a gift of
CHRIST THE former Mayor Jane Ortega to her
husband Congressman Victor
Ortega.
REDEEMER
The place also gives a panoramic
view of the City of San Fernando.
It also has a view of the
mountains and the sea. I just
hope that they have a regular
maintenance of the place because
its very obvious that it is slowly
being neglected.

PANGASINAN:
Bangus Festival, officially named
Dagupan City Bangus Festival, is a
yearly cultural and food festival in
Dagupan City in the province of
Pangasinan, Philippines held every
April 30. It is a celebration of the city’s
production of the bangus fish and many
of its related products.
