Properties of Trapezoid
TRAPEZOID
A TRAPEZOID is a quadrilateral in which
one and only one pair of opposite sides are
parallel. The parallel sides of a trapezoid
are called bases. The nonparallel sides are
called legs. The pairs of angles formed by
a base and the legs are called base angles.
ISOSCELES TRAPEZOID
If the legs of the trapezoid are congruent,
then the trapezoid is called an Isosceles
Trapezoid.

Properties of an Isosceles Trapezoid

1. Legs are congruent
2. Base angles are congruent
3. Diagonals are congruent
4. All properties of a trapezoid
MEDIAN OF A
TRAPEZOID
The median of a Trapezoid is a
segment which joins the midpoints
of the nonparallel sides (legs). It is
parallel to the bases and has a
length equal to one-half the sum of
the lengths of the bases.
Example 1: Given: Trapezoid ABCD. Identify the
a. Legs following
b. Bases
c. Lower base angles
d. Upper base angles
e. Median
f. If BA = 10, BE = ____ and AE = ____
g. If CF = 7.5, DF = ____ and CD =
____
h. If BC = 20 and AD = 30, EF = _____
Example 1: Given: Trapezoid ABCD. Identify the
i. If BC = 12 and EF = 18, AD = ______
following

j. If BC = 23, EF = 29, AD = 11x + 2, x = ____, AD = ______

Example 2: Given: Isosceles Trapezoid WARM with diagonals WR and
AM intersect at E, WM = 17, WR = 21, AE = 6 and WMR = 52.
Find the measure of the following:
1. AR
2. AM
3. EM
4. WE
5. ER
6. ARM
7. MWA
8. WAR
9. WMR + WAR
10. WMR + ARM
Example 3: Given: In Isosceles Trapezoid ABCD, BD = 7x and
CA = 2x + 5, Find x, BD and CA
Properties of Kites
Definitions of Kite
A kite us a quadrilateral in which exactly
one diagonal is the perpendicular bisector
of the other diagonal. It has also two
pairs of consecutive congruent sides, but
opposite sides are not congruent.
Properties of Kite
1. Diagonal are perpendicular.
2. Exactly one pair of opposite
angles are congruent.
3. A diagonal bisects each of the
no-congruent angles and the
other diagonal.
4. Area of a kite = ()
Given: kite JKLM
1. Diagonals:
2. Opposite congruent angles:
3. Noncongruent angles:
4. Diagonals JL bisects KJM and KLM

5. Diagonal also bisects diagonal

Example 1: Find x, y, z and w.
Example 2:
Given KITE in the accompanying figure is a kite,
where O is the point of intersection of KT and EI.
If KE = 13, EO = 5, and IT = , find the measure
of the following.
1. KOI
2. KO
3. OI
4. EI
5. KI
6. ET
7. Area of the kite
Example 2:
