INTRODUCTION
 Fog computing is a model in which data is processed
and applications which are concentrated in devices at
the network edge rather than existing almost entirely
in the cloud.

 In general rather than sending the data directly to the

cloud from the smart devices it can be manage locally
in the smart devices.

 Fog computing creates that extension of cloud

functionally when you need it and brings that
functionally closer to where latency is very important.
WHAT is fog computing ?

 Fog computing is a decentralized computing

infrastructure in which data , compute , storage and
applications are located somewhere between the
data source and the cloud.
history of fog computing ?
 The term fog computing was coined by cisco in January
2014.
 This was because fog is referred to as clouds that are
close to the ground in the same way.
 fog computing was related to the nodes which are
present near the nodes somewhere in between the host
and the cloud.
 It was intended to bring computational capabilities of
the system close to the host machine.
Fog diagram
 Most time sensitive data are handled by nearest fog
node to end device which has generated the data.

 After the received data is analyzed, decision or

action is transmitted to the device.

 After this, fog node sends and stores summary to

the cloud for future analysis.

 The data at fog node is analyzed in fraction of a

second.
 Less time sensitive data are sent to aggregate node
for analysis.
 After analysis is performed, aggregate node sends
decision or action to the device through nearest
node.
 Aggregate fog node takes seconds or minutes to
complete the analysis.
 The aggregate node later sends the report to cloud
for future analysis purpose.
 The time insensitive data can wait for longer
duration (in hours, days or weeks).
 The data is sent to cloud for storage and future
analysis.
Applications

smart gird

 Smart grid is the next generation electric power distribution net work.
 Smart grids contain transmission lines, substations, trans former and so
forth.
 It utilizes bidirectional streams of power and data to create an automated and
distributed strengthen energy distribution network.
 Smart grid gives an obvious energy distribution where service providers and
customer can monitor and control their pricing, production and consumption
in real time .
 In big data environment millions of smart meters are fixed in the consumer
home.
 At the edge process, fog collector are used to collect, process and filter
information locally and for long storage information can be send to cloud
data center .
HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
 Health care services and applications are delay responsive and create
confidential information of the patients.
 The data generated includes sensitive and individual data. Similarly, location
data can be sensitive in some situations.
 Increased instability and latency can cause various problems in telehealth
and telemedicine applications. Such type of situation can make fog
computing an adequate paradigm in health care scenarios .
 Fog computing play an important role in emergency medical service with
little latency restrictions associated with implantable medical devices,
ambulance communications or portable access to patient medical files .
 The proposed system using fog computing to detect predict and prevents fall
by stroke patients.
 They used fall detection learning algorithm across edge devices and cloud
resources. Compared results of the proposed system with other approaches.
They came to the conclusion that this system had a shorter response time
and consumed less energy than the approaches using in the cloud .
FOG COMPUTING IN
EDUCATION
 Technological advancements have transformed the
educational industry, especially in the light of Covid-19.
 The entire sector became heavily dependent on
electronic devices, and a lot of professionals in need of
career advancements educated themselves through
online classes .
 Fog Computing platform enables easy communication
and makes sure to maintain networks to store and
manage data.
 It improves scalability, elasticity, and redundancy for
educational systems to maintain privacy, agility, and
security.
ADVANTAGES
 LATENCY.

 REDUCED BONDWIDTH.

 DISTRIBUTION.

 REAL-TIME DATA ANALYSIS.

DISADVANTAGES

 SECURITY.

 LOCATION.

 LAYERED COMPLEXITY.
CONCLUSION
 Fog Computing platform has made some remarkable enhancements in various
industries. With a significant increase in IoT devices’ usage, there is a relevant
increase in Fog Computing.
 Fog Computing platform has also benefitted the retail sector by introducing
innovative ways to deal with real-time queries and issues.
 Stores may provide handheld devices to staff members to check product
information, check inventory, or even have self-checkout counters to improve
customer experience.
