Following a Path

 STEP 1 - Your Folder on the
Schools Server Make a Folder
for Lesson 4 Following a Path
Step 2 Select Create a New Part
Step 3 Name & Save the Part
 Step 4 Save it in the folder you just
made, Name it Lesson 3 Lofting, & then
Click Save
Step 4.2 Now the Part is
Named & Saved
Step 4.3 Now anytime you
want to save all you have
to do is click the save
button
 Step 5.1 - Blank Part

• This is what the blank part looks like, until you click on
Start 3D Sketch.
 Step 5.2 - 1 Sketch st

• Then the 3 starting planes appear. It prompts

you to select a plane to start the sketch.
 Step 5.3 - 1 Sketch st

• Inventor automatically goes into 2D View, & for

some reason lays the 1st sketch over on it’s side.
I flip it TOP VERTICAL…
 Step 5.4 - 1 Sketch st

• I spun it around to TOP VERTICAL VIEW.

Step 6.1 – Name Sketch
• Double Click on
the sketch Name
It Path.
 Step 6.2 – Draw a Path
• Click on the Line Tool, & Draw a Path Off the
Origin Like in the Screenshot Below.
 Step 6.3 – Add Fillets
• Click on Fillets
Tool.
• 2D Fillet Pop-
Up Box should
appear.
• I’m Putting in 4
Inch Fillets
 Step 6.4 – Draw a Fillets
• Select corners to Fillet. It gives you a preview of
the fillets before you click.
 Step 6.5 – Fillets Installed
• Clicked to place them & then clicked Done.
 Step 6.7 – Finished
• Clicked Finished/Exit to finish the
drawing/sketch.
 Just a NOTE:
• Planes are “like tables.”
• Sketches are “like pieces of paper
on a table.”
 Step 7.1 – Select an Existing Plane
• The YZ Plane is perfect, so don’t need to put in
a new plane.
• Gong to select it (YZ Plane).
 Step 7.2 – Inserting a Sketch
• Select the XZ Plane, Right Click, & Click on New
Sketch..
Step 7.3 – New Sketch PROFILE

• Looking at the new sketch in 2D View.

• Name it PROFILE.
Step 8.1 – Inserting a Circle

• Clicked on Circle & I’m going to

place it on the Origin.
 Step 8.2 – Inserting a Circle
• I’m placed it, made it 2” inches.
• Now going to place another circle.
 Step 8.3 – 2nd Circle

• I made it 2.25” inches, so the wall thickness is 1/8 th

0.125”inches. Then Finished Sketch.
 Step 8.4 – Inserting a New Sketch
• I have sketches Path & Profile.
• Then I’m clicking 3D Tool Sweep.
Step 9.1 – Inserting a Sweep
• Click on Sweep
• Then the Sweeping
Pop-Up Should Appear.
• There are a bunch of
options here.
• Keeping it simple this
time. We are going to
choose the Profile & the
Path Sketches.
 Step 9.2 – Select the Profile
• Click on Select Profile & then Select the
Sketch Profile, make sure not to select
the inside!
Step 9.3 – Select the Profile

• This is what it
should look like

• Next we are
going to select
the Path…
 Step 10.1 – Select the Path
• Click on Select the Curve or Edge (Path).
• Click on the Path Sketch.
 Step 10.2 – Sweeping the Path
• Click OK because this is what
we want.
 Step 10.3 – Sweep Done
• This is the finished sweep.
• Next going to choose materials…
 Step 11.1 – Material & Color
• I Choose Nitride because it can handle oil…
• Dark Gray, Black is too hard to see…
 Step 12.1 – Drawing
• I put it into an Drawing, ¼ Scale, then put
in the Annotations & Notes.
 Step 12.2 – Drawing
• I put it into an Drawing, ¼ Scale, then put
in the Annotations & Notes.
 Step 12.3 – Drawing
• I put it into an Drawing, ¼ Scale, then put
in lots of Annotations & Notes.
Step 12.4 – Saving the File
• File
• Save As
 Step 12.5 – Saving
• Save the file in your folder on the
Network/Server.
