TYPES OF
WIND
TURBINES:
• HORIZONTAL-AXIS TURBINES
• Horizontal-axis wind turbines are what many people picture when thinking of wind turbines.
• Most commonly, they have three blades and operate "upwind," with the turbine pivoting at the top of
the tower so the blades face into the wind.
• VERTICAL-AXIS TURBINES
• These turbines are omnidirectional, meaning they don’t need to be adjusted to point into the wind to
operate.
• These are our turbines, wich are less common and now we are going to tell you the pros and cons of this
turbines
VERTICAL-AXIS WIND
TURBINES:
• These are the turbines that we use and there are different types:

• Savonius:

• Is a drag-type Vertical Axis Wind Turbine. The common design includes a rotating shaft with two or three
scoops that catch the incoming wind. One reason for the low efficiency of a Savonius wind turbine is that
roughly only half of the turbine generates positive torque.

• Darreius:

• Is a lift-type Vertical Axis Wind Turbine. The original design included a number of curved aerofoil blades
with the tips attached on a rotating shaft. However, there are designs that use vertical airfoils, referred to
Giromill Darreius wind turbines.
PROS:
• VAWT ADVANTAGES:

• Cheaper to produce than horizontal axis turbines.

• More easily installed compared to other wind turbine types.

• Equipped with low-speed blades, lessening the risk to people and birds.

• Function in extreme weather, with variable winds and even mountain conditions.

• Permissible where taller structures are prohibited.

• According to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, vertical axis wind turbines are more suited for being
installed in denser arrays, like the new land in la Sierra.
CONS:

• VAWTs CONS:

• Not all of the blades produce torque at the same time, which limits the efficiency of vertical systems in
producing energy.

• Vibration can be an issue at times, and even increase the noise produced by the turbine.

• This can result in more maintenance and therefore more costs associated with it.
BUYING THIS PRODUCT?

• Why would you buy this product?

• I would buy this product because is cheaper and more efficient
than the horizontal wind turbines.
• The price of a horizontal wind turbine is of 1.3-2.2 million
dollars, while vertical-axis wind turbines cost 20000-40000
dollars
• In 2017 a
report in the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, note
d that although vertical axis wind turbines
produce less energy per tower, they have the potential to generat
e as much as 10 times more power over a
comparative area of land when placed in arrays.
TURBINES AREA
LOCATION: VILLAGES THAT RECEIVE
ENERGY

We´ve chosen these location

for the turbines because they
will receive lot of wind and
transform more energy.

The energy will be

transported from the turbines
to the villages by cables.
