God Calls Us to
Respect and Honor
His Name
Every one ha a Name
that makes a person
unique and distinct
from one another.
 Destroying the name of
others is also destroying the
name of God, for we are all
created in the Image &
likeness of God.
God reveals Himself to
Moses, and even gave
His Name “
I AM
Who I Am”
We have God’s definitive
self- revelation as Father,
Son and Spirit
( The Blessed Trinity ).
 The entire history of
salvation, God emphasized
the importance of His name
as pointed out in the Second
commandment.

The 2 commandment

prescribes Respect for

the Lord’s Name.
The Lord’s name is
HOLY. Man must
not abuse it.
God’s name is holy, wo
we should give due
respect, venerate
 The 2 nd

Commandment
forbids the abuse of
Go’s name,
Promises
Blasphemy
Oaths
Perjury
Blasphemy is the use of
the name of God, of Jesus,
the virgin Mary and the
saints in an offensive way.
 False Oaths call
on God to be witness
to a lie.
A person commits perjury
when he makes a promise
under oath with no
intention of keeping it.
Perjury is a grave
offense against the
Lord who is always
faithful to His
promises.
God calls each one by
name, every name is
Sacred.
The name is the
icon of the
person.
It demands respect as
a sign of the Dignity
of the One who bears
it.
The 2 Commandment

enjoins RESPECT for the

Lord’s name. Because the
Lord is HOLY.
It forbids every
improper use of
Gods’ name.
