WHAT IS
MERCANTILISM?
MERCANTILISM

mercantilism is an old economic system

where countries believed that the key
to being wealthy and powerful was to
export more than they import.

They focused on accumulating precious

metals like gold and silver, and they
used various strategies like imposing
tariffs and subsidies to protect their
own industries.

The idea was to boost their economy

and strengthen their position in the
world. However, this approach has been
criticized because it can limit trade and
hinder economic growth.
