REALIZING

HUMBLE
SERVICE

ROM AN S 12:1-21
INTRODUCTI
ON
• When we studied the roles of the Holy Spirit, there
was one I did not get into more:
• He is the one who gives spiritual gifts.
• There are sign gifts and there are service gifts, and
we could even include one’s talent as something the
Holy Spirit chooses to give because a person’s talent
is his gift of ministry—and gifts of ministry is one of
the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

REALIZING HUMBLE SERVICE

Romans 12:1-21
INTRODUCTI INTRODUCTI
ON ON
• Paul’s statements to the Corinthians about spiritual gifts are greatly
misunderstood by a vast majority of professing Christians,
especially those in the charismatic movement (Church of God,
Assemblies of God, etc.).

• The purpose of the power of the Holy Spirit through the gift or gifts
He chooses to give each member of Christ’s body is for that person
to use in realizing humble service to God, not to boast or brag
about, and certainly not to be selfish with or misuse.

INTRODUCTI CONCLUSIO
ON N
• There is enough in this passage alone to keep a Christian busy for
the Lord and not a busybody in the world.
• Too many would prefer not to be involved in this kind of humble
service because it involves sacrifice, submission, and sometimes
inconvenience.
• The guidelines in this portion of Scripture are fundamental for the
successful operation of the local church as well as the proper use of
the spiritual gifts Paul discusses in 1 Corinthians 12-14 and
demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5.
