INTRODUCTION

• Welcome everyone, today we’re going to explain


about the majestic world of Mughal architecture,
known for its grandeur and elegant designs. Our
focus will be on one of the most iconic structure
Badshahi Masjid, showcasing its rich history and
cultural significance through its magnificent
construction and artistic details. We will be
telling all about it’s significance, architecture and
location.
So my dear fellows, this is the Magnificent
BADSHAHI MOSQUE.
SIGNIFICANCE AND
LOCATION

It is the fifth largest mosque in the


world. The mosque is located west
of Lahore Fort along the outskirts
of the Walled city of Lahore, it is
one of Lahore's most iconic
landmarks. Badshahi Mosque was
built by Mughal Emperor
Aurangzeb in 1671-73.
BRITISH RULE

The fall of Mughal empire in 1799


brings Ranjit Singh regime who
used Mosque as infantry training
facility. Britishers later captured the
command of Lahore from Ranjit
Singh in 1846 who used the
mosque again for military purpose.
Till 1939 the Mosque continued to
loose its elegance & architecture.
ARCHITECT

The Badshahi Mosque was preserved,


re-built & restored by Nawab Zain Yar
Jang Bahadur from 1939-1960.
The mosque is an important example
of Mughal architecture, Almost 100
thousand people can offer their
prayers in Badshahi mosque at one
time.
STRUCTURE

The mosque is built of carved red sandstone


with marble inlay. The height of the tall
minaret is 176 feet (53.75 m) having square
courtyard, each side of this open courtyard is
170 meter. With 4 major & 4 minor minarets
and 3 big domes the mosque spread its
splendor in the skyline of Lahore. There is a
beautiful fountain pond in the middle of the
open floor.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the journey of the Badshahi
Mosque from its glorious days under the
Mughal Empire to its later transformation into
a military facility highlights the complex
history and evolving uses of architectural
treasures. Despite facing periods of neglect
and misuse, its significance endures as a
symbol of resilience and cultural heritage. Let
us cherish and preserve such landmarks for
future generations to appreciate and learn
