AMC (1)

 Adaptive Modulation and

Coding (AMC), Node B can
adjust modulation (QPSK,
16QAM) and coding rate (1/3,
3/4, etc) in time according to the
feedback channel state from UE.
So data transferring can follow
the step of channel state
changing in time, it is a good
technology for link self-adaptive
Standard AMC Remark

Quick scheduling (2)
Scheduling policy
Every user get equal service time, but the
Time fairness traffic maybe not equal, the fairest algorithm
but has the lowest traffic

Every user get the same traffic, but the time

Traffic fairness maybe not equal, has the lower utility of
system resource because it will schedule the
UE with bad channel state

Only the user in best channel state (biggest

Max-C/I C/I) will get the service priority in each turn,
the biggest traffic but has the worst fairness

Proportional fairness Weighted compromise of above algorithms

and has bigger system traffic and better
service fairness

 Routing different MAC-es PDU to re-arrangement buffer according to SRNC
configuration.
 re-order
 According to TSN and Node B identification ( CFN, subframe number ) re-
order MAC-es PDU.
 macro diversity

 Used for schedule E-DCH radio resource between different UE
 E-DCH control :
 Used for receive schedule requirement and send schedule command;
 De-multiplexing :
 De-multiplex MAC-e PDU and send MAC-es PDU to related MAD-d flow
 HARQ:
 One HARQ entity can support multiple SAW HARQ process, each process are
used to generate ACK/NACK which are used to indicate if E-DCH data are
received correctly.

New Channel E-DCH for HSUPA

 Proprieties for the E-DCH transmission channel:

 E-DCH/DCH uses the independent CCTrCH for itself;
 Each UE can only use a type of CCTrCHs of E-DCH;
 Each CCTrCH of the E-DCH type corresponds to an E-DCH;
 Each TTI has only one transmission block;
 E-DCH supports 2 ms TTI and 10 ms TTI. 10 ms TTI is forced for all UEs, while
2 ms TTI is optional.
 Use the Turbo 1/3 coding method.
 After the E-DCHs are allocated, the rate of the original uplink
DCH is restricted by 64 Mbit/s.

The uplink DCCH channel and the DTCH logical channel can both
have the mapping relations with the E-DCH transmission channel.

New Physical Channels for HSUPA

 Five kinds of physical channels are newly added for the ports in
the air to support quick retransmission in the physical layer, soft
combination, and Node B distributional scheduling. They
support 2 ms TTI and 10 ms TTI.
 E-DPDCH: E-DCH dedicated physical data transmission channel
(uplink);
 E-DPCCH: E-DCH dedicated physical control channel (uplink);
 E-HICH: E-DCH HARQ acknowledgement indicator channel
(uplink);
 E-AGCH: E-DCH absolute grant channel (uplink);
 E-RGCH: E-DCH relative grant channel (downlink).

© ZTE Corporation. All rights reserved

HARQ Technology

 HARQ process number is related to TTI number, 2ms TTI has 8

process , 10ms TTI has 4 process 。 For UE scheduling and un-
scheduling we could define specific process to transmit.
 Use HARQ E-DCH support intra-Node B and inter Node B
macro-diversity 。

HARQ message

 ACK/NACK IE
 This IE is transmitted in DL E-HICH to notify if transport block is received
correctly.
 RSN
 This IE is transmitted in E-DPDCH to notify HARQ sequence number of
transport block on E-DPDCH.

E-DCH Transmission Time Interval
Abbreviated
ETTI
Name
This parameter indicates the E-DCH transmission time
interval. According to the specification there are two
kind of E-TTI, which are 10ms and 2ms E-TTIs. 10ms E-
TTI is mandatory and it should be supported by all UEs
and all cells which support E-DCH and 2ms E-TTI is
optional. When 2ms E-TTI is supported by the
Description capability of the UE and the Node B, the value of E-TTI
configured in the background should be used,
otherwise 10ms E-TTI should be applied. When there
are more than one service running for the UE, the
combining principle is that if there is one service
configured to use 2ms E-TTI then 2ms E-TTI is applied,
otherwise 10ms E-TTI is applied.

CPC – Continuous Connectivity for Packet Data
Users
 HSDPA/HSUPA has always been facing challenge from fixed broadband
network (DSL), for some weak points, although it has enhanced the data
speed.
 latent transmission interruption
 frequent connectivity termination
 no-guaranteed QoS
 one A-DCH (SF=256) for every UE leads code resources limitation in DL
 UL interface limit more UE access
 CPC is the solution to change the situation with these steps:
 Replace F-DPCH (Fractional-Dedicated Physical Channel) with A-DCH to use code
resources efficiently in DL
 Optimize UL DPCCH slot format with 4 bits TPC and 6bits Pilot to decrease spending for
control signaling and increase VoIP capacity
 Increase PS UE number in CELL_DCH and decrease latency switching from non-activate
to activate state for PS UE
 Extend the time UE in CELL_DCH state and extend UE’s power usage time

Improved Lay-2 Support for High Data Rate

 Allow link layer support for high data rates in downlink by

 Introducing support for flexible RLC PDU sizes
 Introducing MAC-hs multiplexing
 Introducing MAC-hs segmentation
 Provide a single L2 protocol evolution for all performance
enhancements
