deciles for ungrouped

data
THE BOAT IS SINKING
deciles for • Decile are the nine
ungrouped data score points that
divides the
distribution into ten
equal parts. They are
denoted as D1, D2,
D3, ….. D9
To easily locate the deciles, we use the
formula:
These are the steps in solving for the
values of deciles:

Step 1: Arrange the data in increasing order.

Step 2: Identify the total number of points.
Step 3. Apply the decile formula to calculate the position of the
required data point.
Step 4. Round off to the nearest integer.
Step 5. Apply steps 3 and 4 to determine the rest of the deciles.
example

• D6 is the 7 element or D6 = 21
th
D
• 3 is the 4 th
element or D3 = 7
applying linear interpolation method

• The value of the decile can be determined as [lower score +

(distance)(higher score - lower score)]
Try to solve

The marks obtained by a sample of 20 students in a

class test are as follows:
20,30,21,29,10,17,18,15,27,25,16,15,19,22,13,17,14,1
8,12 and 9

• Find the D2, D5, and D9 and integrate the linear

interpolation method
Answer the following.

Blood sugar level of a sample of 20 patients

admitted to the hospitals are as follows:
75,89,72,78,87, 85, 73, 75, 97, 87
84, 76,73,79,99,86,83,76,78,73.
