SCHEDULE WASTE INFORMATION
Scheduled waste is defined as any waste falling within the categories of waste listed in the
First Schedule of the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.

There are 77 categories of scheduled wastes listed under the First Schedule of the
Regulations.

The Department of Environment has reviewed the types of scheduled wastes listed under
several categories of scheduled wastes and has classified several type of these wastes as
non-scheduled waste based on the following consideration:

(a) The waste has been widely used as raw material to produce
product that is safe to be used;

(b) The waste does not exhibit significant toxic characteristics;

(c) The waste is not classify as hazardous wastes at


international level.

DEFINITION

2) Fire & Explosion Hazard – Explosive, Oxidizing, Flammable

3) Effects to Environment - Pollutes Air, Toxic to living organisms, contaminates to


waterways, catastrophic effect to flora & fauna

clearly labeled on the containers.

Symbols of hazards shall be as stipulated in the Environmental Quality Act


(e.g – symbol of flammable waste must be in red colour. Photocopy/printed is allow provided the
symbol is in black and white)

Hazard symbol shall within 4” X 4” (10cm X 10cm) frame

No person is allowed to alter the markings the labels.

Proper storage – preferably under shed, or at least cover with canvas to avoid water ingress from rain. Waste
container drip pan in place.

Signage to indicate storage area, available spill kit, emergency equipment.

Containers are compatible with waste, durable and able to prevent spillage or leakage which could harm
people/harm the environment.

Avoid using rusting drum as it may not withstand

Containers shall always be closed, except when it is necessary to add or remove the waste

Storage area shall be maintain adequately and lockable

MSDS & Chemical Register form in place

Quantity of schedule waste accumulatively shall not exceed 180 days


(need to dispose starting date registered)
